US suspect arrested in Pattaya

A 63-year-old American engineer wanted on charges of child sexual abuse in the USA has been arrested in South Pattaya.

Curtis David Fahlberg was apprehended at his rented room in Pattaya Soi 18 yesterday morning, said Pol Maj-Gen Pongdej Chaiprawaj, Commander of the International Airport Immigration Division.

Police claim they found many photos of young girls in his room. The arrest came after US Immigration and Customs Enforcement sought the cooperation of Thai police when they were tipped off that Fahlberg was travelling between Thailand and Cambodia.

A warrant had been issued for the arrest of Fahlberg by Los Angeles authorities on child sexual abuse charges. He was said to have subsequently fled to Thailand. Pol Maj-Gen Pongdej said it was alleged Fahlberg preyed on girls under 15 and travelled back and forth between Thailand and Cambodia to buy under-age girls from an agent.

Investigators claim the latest accusations against him involve sex with an 11-year-old Cambodian girl who was photographed by him. He was also accused of sexually abusing a six-year-old Thai girl.
