Americanized Chinese Food?

Featured Replies

On Asok, halfway between the BTS and Asok Towers is a little place that looks really Americanized. They have delivery too. If I walk by it again soon I will post the name.

what do u mean looks Americanized? i am talking about the dish they serve.

Something like a "Panda Express" would be ideal. Would probably do really well in Thailand actually.

Who would eat americanised chinese food here? What's wrong with "authentic" Chinese, or Thai-Chinese?

Even american food is a hard sell nowadays - even at fast food outlets. It's all pork burgers, spicy chicken with sweet sauce and the likes.

We just did a thread on this topic.........the consensus was that you can't get it in Thailand. Too bad because lots of foreigners (in America and in Europe) love American style Chinese dishes.

You would think that at least one smart Chinese-Thai would open a restaurant serving it........it would have to be located in an area with lots of foreigners (good location in Chiang Mai or Kao San Road in Bangkok or Pattaya would likely work).

It could be a buffet type of thing........really miss that food.

American Chinese is just as valid a type of Chinese food as Thai Chinese or even Hunan Chinese. Chinese have been in the Americas for hundreds of years now and the food was adapted for American tastes and ingredients, but it is still a type of Chinese food. It is however not very surprising that it is not easily found in Thailand.

Sure, just wait a few posts and someone will come and tell us that the Americans actually invented Chinese food... Sigh..

LOL :)

Chop suey, chow mein, fortune cookies, General Tso's chicken, egg rolls, egg foo young, fried rice, sweet and sour pork, etc.

LOL :D

You know those white containers with the fold-up top that they put the Chinese food in.........never saw that in China and been to the north and south......I think it might also be an American invention.

Also, never saw a fortune cookie so that the earlier poster is correct about that too.

Actually, all of these foods originally came from Africa..........think about 3.5 million years ago. :)
