Guys, looking for some Mitsubishi Triton buying advice, specifically:

What is the difference between Triton and Triton Plus?

Which has better resale, 2WD or 4WD?

Which has better resale, Manual or Auto?

Is the 3.2L noise that bad or should I stick with the 2.5L?

What is the dealer warranty?

Is there a new model about to launch that is worth waiting for?

Thanks for any advice all :)

If you are not needing a pick up get yourself the Pajero Sport 2.5L for just a few hundred thou more... BUT if you do need the pick up...

The Triton Plus is a 2WD, just raised so it looks like a 4WD-

On some of the low 2WD versions they still have the old 102 HP engine, not all of them comes with the 143HP... unless they have changed in the last few months...

I bought the 4wd 3.2L GLS option, I liked the window so I had to buy it in Auto, but I do like the manual gearbox more, now the 3.2 manual has the same window so I might change my Jazz for that model...

I suggest you find what YOU LIKE, not what everyone else like. Remember, some people can not accept that other brands are as good as the one they drive...

My honda jazz is the best car in the world and everything else is just rubbish!!!!! There you are!!!

The Triton is good, very good... The Vigo is good, very good.... The Dmax is Good.... The Mazda and Fords are Good, very fast... The Nissan is Good...

Guess the question you should ask yourself is how long time will you have it??? If you are like me, stupid to change cars every year get a Toyota or Izusu, if you will keep it for 4 years or more, then it doesn't matter too much (you will lose more money on anything that is not a HONDA/TOYOTA/IZUSU...

Good luck.

ps... I went to look at the new triton a few days ago.. 4 doors, triton, 2 doors, vigo... But that is just me!

Hi - i've been looking at the Triton and the Vigo.

3.2 and 3.0 respectively....and I'm REALLY confused about the 4WD systems on these models - can someone explain.

I'm looking for a FULL 4wd or permanent system that either has locking diffs back and front or traction control. No-one in any showroom seems to know the first thing about the 4WD on these vehicles.

I was under the impression that the 4WD Triton had the same "super-select" 4WD system as the Pajero Sport - this I believe has a form of traction control and does away with the need for locking or LS diffs.??

However when I looked at the Triton on sale in the showroom it did not appear to have this system - was it an older "run-off" model? - they were still asking the full price!

THe Vigo I hear mention of "Tor_Sen" diffs (torque sensitive) but are they standard?

On both models what is the difference between the 4WD on theautomatics and the manuals?

OK engineers - help me out here....or should I just get an old "Troupie"?

Ive had a Triton Plus 2.5 GLS Tdi Auto MegaCab ( Two door ) for Two years, and had no problems

but cursing its not too bad, but as he said , he got use to the noise after a bit, the other thing he commented

on was the build quality, the inner engine bay was only painted in a dull primer color , as compared to the full

gloss in my Triton 2.5 , there were some other build quality item noticeable in side the cab and dash board

area, the Triton rear tail gate badges were not fitted straight , and the Two large 4x4 rear side panel badges

were also not put on straight , near the rear window area there are Two metal seems , and on both sides you could see where the paint had run.

Thanks Thailife for this very illuminating post! I'm thinking about getting a car in the next future and I like the Triton the most.

I found this website for 2nd hand cars:

400.000 for a 2009 TRITON 2.5 GLX? Is this a realistic price or are there other hidden fees or downpayments? I'm just starting to research the market and I haven't been driving/owning a car for the past 10years, so I'm a bit lost at the moment... :)

TL - I bet you that the local Mitsu dealership love you when you walk in!, 'he's back - we must have forgotten to give him something!'

Looking at Mitsubishi's monthly sale figures for pickup trucks its no wonder they pile on all those freebies.

I have owned a Navara for nearly 3 years now and Nissan's are not much ahead.

The Thai's are in love with their Toyota's and Isuzu's, they shift something like 40k trucks per month.

When I bought my truck the neighbours said "why you buy Nissan?- not a good truck" When I asked why, they could not give me answer.

When you drive into Petchabun City there are many used car shops by the side of Route 21, looking at all the Toyota's and Isuzu's its clear that the Thai's do not keep their trucks for long!, might explain the monthly sale figures, they just keep on buying new ones :)

The GLX is very basic, No ABS, No Airbag, No CD/MP3, only 116Hp engine

The GLS has far more slandered kit + 140Hp and is around 100k more...

Lots of 2008/9 GLX models for sale around 400k

Not so many GLS models around cost about 500k or more for a 2008

Do a search 'MITSUBISHI TRITON Spec Thailand' many sites in English and shows what each model has and the price when new.

I got the top of the range (ABS, air bags) low 2wd, it has a 116HP engine, the 143 engine isn't available on the low models.

Good advice, also think what you will be using it for. Of all the pick ups, the Triton seems to be most like a sedan (better handling, safety etc.), I do a lot of hwy driving, which is why I got it.

IMO besides appearance, there is not much point in the raised 2WD versions and the high COG makes them dangerous.

As the other poster said, resale on the Triton is poor - the Thais (and many farang) will not look past Toyota and Isuzu.
