Considering Move To Phuket

Featured Replies

Hi Phuket,

I've had enough of Pattaya, and am thinking about moving to Phuket. I enjoy the nightlife, so guess Patong would be the most obvious choice. I haven't visited for over 6 years, so will be flying down soon to check the place out, any suggestions of other places for me to check out whilst I'm there apart from patong? How much should I expect to pay for a long term rental of a 2/3 bed house with pool in or near Patong? I can't move until June, so maybe prices will be a little lower as it's low season, did the Tsunami affect rental prices too?

Thanks,

Konangrit

Hi there,

Patong doesnt have too many houses with pools. Your best bet I guess would be the hill above the Amari. I think the houses will go for atleast 50k.

There are some nice house with pool in Kamala for as low as 25 k a month. Its also worth while checking out Kathu for great deals.

Many of the long term expats prefer Rawai and Chalong where you can also get good deals. Limited nightlife but only a 15-20 minute drive from Patong

One of the nicest things about Phuket is that there is a variety of smaller communities scattered around the island - many right next to the sea. Many have their own character - and all would make a comfortable home base for a farang. Personally, I like the Kamala, Bang Tao, Cherng Talay - and even Mai Khao areas.

Most even have their own brand of "night life".

Prices vary quite a bit depending on where you end up - and how carefully you look. You might consider basing yourself in Patong for a bit - but also spending some time looking around the island - there's a lot more here than you might think.

For medium priced rentals (doesn't seem anyone does "low-priced" rentals) - check out: http://phuketdeafeagle.com/house_rent.htm - they have a wide selection from about B8000 up. Though I agree with the previous poster - it will take B25 and up to get a pool.

Some of the more upscale real estate/rental agencies don't usually bother for less than B50-75k per month.

Keep an eye on the Phuket Gazette - they often have decent properties for rent in their classified section - you can go back 72 days - to see what has been offered previously - and get an idea of the general market. They are at http://www.phuketgazette.net

i think it is a perfect time to move to Phuket Patong, alots to bargain for

Thanks guys, I pay 25K here and realise Pattaya is generally quite a bit cheaper than Phuket so have budgeted for a little more, although 50K is more than I'm willing to pay. Seems like I can get a similar place for this much if I'm willing to stay outside of Patong, or forgo the pool, which to be honest, I rarely use. I don't mind staying a 20 minute drive away from Patong, as I stay a little out of town here.

Will probably come down for a weekend towards the end of the month and take a look around some of the areas posted here.

Cheers,

Konangrit.

I forgot to mention, I need ADSL. Is all of the island wired up?

not yet, but seeing as Phuket will be the cyber hub of asia soon, it will probably be completed by the time your flight arrives :o

I won't waste my time by visiting areas without ADSL, then. Do any of the places that have been posted above not have ADSL? Or is it so limited that I should be asking which areas do have ADSL?

Land & House park near Chalong Circle -- that's where you will find the kind of houses you're looking for -- the swimming pool and clubhouse are within walking distance. Drive around and you'll see the "for rent" signs -- Phuket Gazette will also have some listings. Price around 20K -- ADSL? .. many, many LH residents have it -- quite common. 20-30 min. drive to Patong.

Phuket is A-OK!

What's irony then? Same as goldy or coppery, but a different colour.

phuketsiam - You're welcome, couldn't resist it.

Some mothers do 'ave 'em, don't they?

My ex was hopeless at irony, scorched 3 shirts before i explained the contols :o

They Do !!, you must be a brit

Yes I am, I won life's lottery.

"Are you Gods"?

"No, but we are the next best thing. Englishmen."

Why did the sun never set on the British Empire

because

God doesn't trust the Brits in the dark :o

Not that many brits in Chalong, wonder if I know you

That's why England was also known as "Perfidious Albion".

Don't think we know each other. I am working offshore India at the moment. I do a 6 week on / 6 week off rotation. Will be back in the first week of April.

ADSL? .. many, many LH residents have it -- quite common.

Partly outside the topic but I live in LH, waited two years for the phone line and now I have waited 6 months for the ADSL. I would double check if TOT will continue to provide the service. Secondly, real ADSL is only available through satellite in Phuket, everything else is broadband, with variable speed.

Cheers........kandt :o

well, ADSL on Phuket is very common. I ordered and was up and running 3 working days later.

There is 2 phone wire companies, TOT and TT&T. TOT give u best speed for less baht. TT&T offers a wide range of more expensive ISPs, u can choose til u get blue in the fase. Have a good experience with JI net

I run my IP phone from Norwegian provider here, and the quality is like I was there, when talking on phone, basicly free of charge, to the Norwegians..
