Driver Lic.

Featured Replies

:) G'Day, I have a Florida drivers lic,can that be exchanged for a Thai lic.Moving over in Nov. Thanks, Rueben.

Got any Florida dollars?

All things are possible.

Keep the license. It is too easy to get a Thai license. Other than the letter from the embassy, it is mainly at the Land Transport Office depending on the province where you live. I have had Thai licenses since 1991 and renewal is no problem. If you are working, you need the work permit. If on retirement visa, just the letter from the embassy. Several people use the letter from the embassy. I had to get an extra copy of my retirement letter from the US embassy ($30) and used it because it had my address on it. Each province has their own rules. Just work with them.

No need to exchange the license just apply for a Thai license when you get here. You will need to have in you're possession:

Florida license (still valid of course)

International driving permit (IDP) purchased at you're AAA in Florida

Copies of passport

Medical certificate

Residence certificate from Thai Immigration

Driver license application(fill it out at the Dept. of Land Transport)

Some cash to pay the fee

No photos as they take it there now

If you want a motorbike license then double all the paperwork and cash as it is a separate

license.

You will not have to take the driving practical test if you currently hold a valid US license and have the IDP. You will be required to take a vision test, a colorblind test, a reaction time test and a depth perception test and most likely a road sign written test.

Should be a simple process. Take a Thai with you as most offices the staff speaks little English and he forms are all Thai.

If I missed anything I'm sure someone will point it out.

Oh yeah read the pinned topics at the top of this driving forum where there is a lot of info
