Renovation on Bang Plat intersection flyover kicking off

BANGKOK, 16 September 2009 (NNT) - Maintenance and renovation to the Bang Plat intersection flyover has kicked off today with little impact to traffic as of yet in a continuation of city-wide bridge overhauls.

Bangkok Governor Mom Rachawong Sukhumbhand Paribatra explained the need to shut down portions of the Bang Plat intersection flyover this morning after traveling to the bridge to inspect its first day of maintenance work. The governor stated that the fly over would be brought up to new regulations of safety which included the installation of shock absorbers. Work on the bridge is likely to complete within the allotted time frame despite being done during the rainy season. Authorities have been instructed to keep the area lit and monitor traffic flow in assistance of citizens.

Over 30 police officers have been posted to the area to aid in the operation. The flyover maintenance will take 90 days to complete. Commuters are suggested to use Pinklao, Rama VII and Rama VIII Bridges instead to avoid traffic congestion.

30 police officer aren't gonna make things any better but make it worse. Thai traffic police are absolutely clueless when directing traffic. All they do is stand there and wave there hands for traffic to keep moving, even thought traffic is at a stand still any 10 year kid can their job!

I dont agree Thai police do a good job at regulating traffic at times. When it is rush hour near my place they keep all the minivans and taxis from stopping at the bus stops. This helps because the busses dont have to stay in the middle of the road then. I see real improvements during rush hour. Its good that the cops control all the idiots who stop everywhere because it suits them.
