Bathroom Light On: Computer Turns On

You must be a TROLL !!

Turns itself on ??????

Bathroom light no less ... I assume you don't do your computing in the bathroom.

Comes out of Standby maybe, but turns on cold start ???

No offense, but I don't believe it.

Air conditioners take a fair amount of power, so I might believe that one. But a 40W Fl lamp presents a miniscule load on the power line.

Anyway, if I am wrong I apologize.

I think that Lop's suggestions are excellent. Except I'd try #2 first.

Just moved into a new place and when I turn on the bathroom flourescent light, my computer turns itself on  Solution???

If what you say is true :D , then turn your computer on. That should take care of the bathroom lights :o

It happened to me when i was living in Melbourne, Australia. At first i was dead scared since i believe in spirits.

I talked to one of my friend who was a computer hardware specialist and he told me to unplug the power cable everytime the computer was off. [ then i realised i dont need a hardware specialist to tell me that ]

I remember telling my friend if i unplugged the thing and it starts itself again i am moving to a new apartment... :D

since then everything was smooth !!

:o When we moved in the new house, there was an electric socket just above our washrooms bathtub . I've removed it.

Maybe it was for a pc.

The wiring is often messed up when installed.

We have 5 switches at the entrance door an that was a mess, I had to reconfigure it.

I always turn my PC off at the power point after I have shut it down. Sometimes when I turn the PP back on it will boot by itself, sometimes I have to hit the power button on the front of the PC. No idea why?

For people mocking there may be a simple answer..

I have a couple of RD-RAM motherboards that will auto boot when power is provided (I think they were more server based features in the BIOS) so you can shut down the machine or power it off and if the power cuts and then is reapplied it will reboot. I think the feature is designed for a machine to reboot rather than sit 'off' after a power cut..

So lets say he shuts the machine down and does not actually cut the power (via the switch on the PSU on the back of the machine) and the bathroom switch actually has some kind of funky power draw that cuts power to the PC for a second.. Then the machine could boot as power is reapplied.

Seems simple to me and having had Thai homes where I got static / electric shocks all the time, poor earths, etc etc etc nothing will surprise me about power oddities.

A long shot:

you may "wake on lan activity" enabled in the bios. if your machine is connected to a hub or adsl router, this might be sending a packet that starts a powerup.

alough i still go with the ghosts theory.....
