first off, thanks Aussiejosh for the in-depth view.

One phrase comes thru loud and clear: spoilt brats. Their parents deserved to be spanked more than the kids, for being such delinquent influences.

I rent places out, where I reside in Thailand. I rent to farang. It's not that I'm actively opposed to renting to Thai, it's just that 100% of inquiries are farang, though most of them have a Thai partner as part of the package. Ironically, my new live-in partner, a hill tribe young lady, advises me not to rent to Thais, should the option present itself. Am not sure why, but I would venture that Thais in general just have different expectations of what a rental space is about (kitchen out-back, frying hot peppers, all camped in one room with TV soaps blaring for 17 hrs/day, etc).

I rarely interact with hi-so Thais, but the few times I've noticed how put-on charming they try to be, whereas their real thoughts are not well disguised. One way to tell is by observing them when they're not fully 'on' with their act, like when they look away or discuss something with one of their peers (with a normal tone of voice and relaxed face) and then they turn and say something to you (with affected smile and animated face and fake enthusiasm). Altogether, hi-so appear to spend their waking hours pretending to be something/someone, rather than being natural & truthful. I wonder if they could really be natural and truthful, even if they chose to be that way just for 20 minutes.

True Hiso Thais don't speak in public with non Hiso's (except their staff).
