Yes, you are right on both accounts, mine is always going non-round..even from a handshake. However Thais don't call 18carat real gold..whatever you do don't buy that quality for your loved one.

Pardon my ignorance, but is there such a thing as a 21 or 22 carat ring ?

I would have thought that just a tiny bit of alloy in with the gold would make it harder.

I will be in the market for a gold ring in the next few months, myself.
