where would that be? Chiang Mai Plaza you meant? or Building opposite Oun Hee Ha seafood restaurant?

maybe its named Bar Bazaar, the same one that some hit n run poster posted today?

could have been Chiang Mai Plaza, I just assumed it meant the one in the Night Bazaar.

Iain

The Night Bazaar building is on 3 floors.

I, know that for sure there is a sportbar it's on the 4th floor of the Plaza. Opening is on 15 of okt.

I saw the advert also, I think its near Martini bar. On the plaza opposite the corner of Pantip

Seeing that you joined yesterday, and seem to know all about it, you may as well give us all the details of this new bar of yours :)

That building is also 3 floors. I guess I'll have to go to town today and sort this out. Ouch the high cost of beer. If I find anything I'll report back. :)

Yes more details please. Is opening by invite only? Will the bar cover sports like golf and cricket or just be the standard football?

Ah yes a true sports bar like you said golf, cricket, OZ rules, rugby, football(soccer) American football, base ball NBA, all live sporting events with pool tables, dart boards, flat screen TV's 52 inch about 6 ea. Every beer that's available at a good price with excellent bar food. Dress the waitress's up like Hooter Girls kick in a couple of chrome poles and you might make it but 4th floor no way. There is not one true sports bar CM not even close, shame

I wish the owner of the Sports Bar success but so far the Plaza building is not very promising. I believe it hasn't even officially opened yet but several stores already closed their business there; Apple iStudio, Top Charoen, Subway, a barber... A number of other businesses that were supposed to occupy the Plaza never opened. I do not think that the few stores that are there are doing very well.

The building (and half of the rest of the Night Bazaar) is owned by Chang Beer and they seem very good at creating empty retail spaces (Kalare, Panthip, Meridian, Plaza).

The costs of running the Plaza must be huge (all the staff, the airconditioning) and it will take very long for the Plaza building to become a commercial success but Chang doesn't seem to care much. They should lower their rental fees considerably in order to get new tenants but it might be even too late for that.

My experience in CM is that there are few if any successfully bars, pub, night life venues that succeed above ground level. I don't care how you count floors if it's above your head the public will not go.

Yes more info please, I'm now lost as to where it is 4th floor, 3rd floor, night bazaar, near Martini Bar. Where and at what time is it opening 15th October and............

mandagay is above ground level, seems to be busy with the locals

there's that rooftop reggae bar near Thapae Gate too. It does have a very good location, and it's very obvious what it is from ground level. Last time I went there it was stinking of cat piss though. Maybe it was the backpackers, I don't know!

As for the sports bar, I know one of the guys involved, and it's on the roof looking down on the D2. Good luck to them.

I would hate to ask one of you guys to go out and get me a pie.

Locations have all differed from across the road from the chinese restaurant which I take to be the one on Sridonchai which puts it in the Chiangmai Plaza Hotel, another is Chiang Mai Plaza (which is where exactly) another says across the road from Panthip.

Most places referred to are 3 storied unless your a yank (or a Thai) who count the ground as the first floor "which of course it is ain't"

Why cannot someone (and it looks as if someone on this thread is connected with this new bar) just say in so many words exactly where the place is.

It's on Changklan (or whatever road) it's in the building in front of the D2 Hotel which was Chiang Inn Plaza and still known as that by business people as that. If it is that building it might be possible to say it has four (or more) floors because they are all half floors.

Start off at the level of where you park in front of D2 go up half a floor to where KFC used to be. Go up another half a floor (half a level) and so on.

If the venture is going to rely on the directions of the majority of people on this thread it might open next Thursday but it will be closed by the end of the month :)

Here we go again!! "on the roof looking down on the D2" which happens to be at least five stories higher :D

We might get a definitive location soon :)

I walked up to it the other day when I saw the took took with the ad. It says it's on the 4th floor but the second floor is almost a mezzanine and, yes, the 1st floor is usually the ground floor but in this case you have to go up a few stairs to get to it.

New sports bar that will open on the 15th. Looks out over the D2 beer garden and Chang Klan Rd. Modern style with a bar outside and one inside with what appeared to be a few draft beers. Some televisions around but not nearly enough for a sports bar. The front half near Chang Klan Rd. is outside and the area overlooking the D2 beer garden is air conditioned. A couple of smallish coin operated pool tables, one inside and one outside.

Owned by a Thai woman from Bangkok with a foreign husband, so says the security guard. Keo says he knows one of the guys involved so there must be more to the story.

Didn't get a chance to check out the bathrooms but I'm willing to bet that they have none and that you have to use the ones at the Plaza. (Bathrooms are an important thing in a bar filled with beer guzzling sports fans.)

Didn't see a menu.

Suppose to be opening on the 15th.

To get there, take the escalators out front as high as they go.

I'm not sure who is going to a sports bar in the Night Bazaar but I wish them luck and I have no connection with the establishment and I was not here.

OK TV Bar Connoisseurs The Sport Bar has been spotted. It's in The Chiang Mai Plaza on the 4th floor. The Plaza is 5 floors. There are lifts and escalators that are operational. The Sports Bar has 21 yes 21 flat TV'S and will be showing 20 sport channels. It has at least 2 brand new full size American pool tables. It sets on top of Pizza Hut on the same corner. If you look close from the ground you can see some of the TV'S. They have two balconies with out door seating for smoking. They have 3 satellite feeds and plan on serving food. This is not I repeat not your typical beer bar or chrome pole venue. They are to open Thursday 15th, hours well be 11:00AM to 2:00AM. I for one wish them well. They have spent some serious money on this venue and there is nothing like or close to it in Chang Mai. I too have doubts on there location but if they succeed they may become a TV Sponsor. No I have no connection.

ok finally~ thanks for the input, pity the Trinations is all but over, who knows if they will be around when the super 14 gets underway again, but I usually watch that at home :)

Its a tough market in CM and I wouldnt think bar/pub owners are raking it in at the moment, and if you have high overheads like rent in a plaza you might have to have deep pockets to see you thru.

good luck

looks nice, they have spent some coin

dont think ive ever seen flashy barstaff making cocktails, or hip hop dancers in a sports bar before ~ maybe part of the opening show,

who knows, but if they keep that up i wont be going

Just ran across this youtube.

I'm going tomorrow.

One of the weirdest promational video clips I have seen. I had planned to go this evening, but had someone call for some horizontal folk dancing lessons, so naturally that took precedence :)
