I am going to buy an Isuzu pick up late this year or early in 2010. Sales people tell me they cannot offer cruise control on pick ups and I am wondering can this be done after I buy the vehicle?

Pick up is being bought as I live on a farm but I also want to do some travelling and hence would like cruise control if possible.

Can someone please tell me if I can do this and if so where can this be done?

Thank you.

This was an option I didn't even think about when I bought my car. In the states it's standard on almost every car. I was a little annoyed at myself for not making sure the car had it. I think in Thailand they just don't feel it's very necessary with so few long straight roads. I would also like to know how I can get it installed in Phuket and how much. Maybe the dealer?

When they told you they could not install it on a truck, is that because there is a law against it? I could see something silly like that being the case here, like someone decided that the Thai's would just be falling asleep all the time if they use cruise control. lol

I have cruise control and it does not get used. The driving conditions here leave a lot to be desired and the few times I did use it, it wasn't turned on very long before had to hit the brakes to avoid somebody. Sure, in the US they are put to good use, here, they're a waste.

Where do you want use cruise control? In all this heavy "motorcycled" traffic? In USA, maybe, if you own a Winnibago, so you can go make your sandwitches in the back of the Winnibago, during driving somewhere in Arizona. but here in Thailand, i see no way to ever use this option.

Good point. I will be driving regularly to Pattaya from Surin as well as to other places. Average times of trips will be 5 to 6 hours so having cruise is not essential but would be nice to have the option on a long drive.

cruise control is standard on several cars and trucks, among them my 2010 Vigo pickup. Went from Hua Hin to Phuket yesterday. 700 km in 6 hours, and cruise is just great. take it up to 140-160 kmh and engage cruise. some rest for my right foot :)

On the drive from Bangkok to Buriram and Pattaya to Buriram, I guess I could make use of a cruise control but I would not go out of my way to fit one retrospectively. Most of the time it would never be used.

Well guys, I just buy 2 weeks ago on Christmas 2009 an 1 year old ISUZI D-Max, Highlander, without cruise controle.

In my cars in Germany I have that cruise controle and be happy to use it.

I try to find-out what the German ISUZI dealers tells me about the possibility to install that cruise controle. When I know more I will inform you. At least the WAECO compagny ( find in the internet) sells back-up cruise controle units for most "any" car. I will phone that compagny as well to find out more.

The Thailand dealer give me the same information on my additional build in cruise controle unit question, thats Thailand NOT offer this for ISUZI D-Max pick-up

Lets find out what the Europeen market offers.

Best regards

Martin

Hi.

The Isuzu D-Max sold in Germany has this option as a standard. And it is, yes, "Made In Thailand".

But there they also offer automatic with both engines and in all body variants........

They probably offer better paint color choices in Germany too! :)

Regarding cruise control, there are some comments in this thread about "Where would you need it?" While I can see that question for people living in certain parts of Thailand, there are plenty of areas where CC is useful . . . like Isaan for one.

Generally, the Thai automobile manufacturers seem to only want to offer this feature on top end models. Yet, every model they offer, from the smallest and cheapest to the biggest and most expensive, is designed to be driven on the highways. Thus, it is a feature that has relevance for all models offered.

The manufacturers have their heads in the sand about offering this feature, and are more interested in their own production line considerations than giving the customers what they want. Further, I think most Thai consumers are too accepting of what is offered to them, rather than being more demanding. Honda Jazz/Fit for example, comes with CC standard in the States, while it is not even an option in Thailand.

The manufacturers seem to have the same attitude about offering heaters in their cars . . . at least as an option. Decisions are made in Bangkok and Rayong, while millions of people live in the North and Northeast where a heater is needed on occasion. Further, a heater would benefit users in all areas with improved defroster function and interior temperature control (when you need some A/C, but it is making the interior too cold.)

Toyota offers cruise control on their Hilux 4x4. As I say that I fell cruise control is like tits on a boar and dangerous in Thailand. I drive from Chiang Mai to Surin about 6 times a year on good roads and bad roads and no where do I fell it would be safe to use.
