Outsource employees of Thai Airways International and Thai Airport Ground Services (Tags) yesterday staged separate protests at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

About 50 contract staff of Thai Airways who sort luggage stopped work in response to Airport of Thailand's revision of some working rules.

One of the changes is that daytime employees are no longer allowed to wear uniforms with pockets, in order to prevent the theft of passengers' belongings.

AOT had earlier asked night-shift staff to over the day employees' work.

AOT chairman Piyaphan Champasut said the company would not withdraw the new rules.

Narongsak Sangapong, THAI senior executive vice president, said the issue would not affect operations at the airport. All carriers are operating as normal.

Outsource workers of Tags, which provides ground-handling services at Suvarnabhumi, protested over concerns they will lose their jobs as AOT will soon end a contract with the company.
