This was my 1st digital camera.

I bought the A520 4 years ago. Recently the camera seems to think at times that the batteries are low and need to be replaced and then powers down. This has happened with several sets of new batteries which were checked with a battery checker. Also when powering up, it sometimes extends the lens even though it is in playback mode and when the camera is in record mode and is switched to playback mode, the lens does not retract until I power down the camera.

Are these problems recognizable and if yes, is there a quick solution.

It sounds like a problem with the electronics.

Canon have a good service network.

Chiangmai Branch (For all products)

146/3,9 Moo1, Padad, Muang,

Chiangmai 50100.

Tel. 0-5381-2344. Fax. 0-5328-2911

is the address.

Let them give you an estimate, then decide how to proceed.

I have heard that Canon have a service center for camera in MBK Bangkok.

(The Canon service center in Pantip Plaza is only for computer printers.)

I have owned a Canon A540 which was stolen and now a canon A590.

The Powershots are all similar and at various times

I have seen similar problems to what you describe.

They are excellent cameras but all seem to go wrong in similar ways.

Right now I have poor picture quality despite my multi megabytes

and will be visiting MBK soon.

I live in Chiang Mai.

Last year I (over) paid to fix my $170 camera so I don't know if I want to spend much more for a 4 year old camera. I was hoping for a simple solution if one existed.

Given that history you should let Canon give you an estimate, then decide whether to repair or dump and buy a new one.

Sounds like a logical plan.

Regarding the Canon address you gave, can you please clue me in on what part of Chiang Mai it might be around. I checked google map but nothing came up and I didn't see the street name around the computer stores on the North side of the moat.

Thanks

Sorry I can't help with the location.

The info is off the Canon Web site.

Give them a phone call.

They actually have a map on their website but I can't quite figure where the place is still.

It's on the superhighway (1141) south of the city. Almost across from a Mazda dealer.

It is 1 km past the river going west on the superhighway.

They're good.
