Syncing Smartphone With Windows 7

Featured Replies

I have a smartphone (HTC 3600i running Windows Mobile 6.1) and I can set up and sync with Windows 7 via a USB connection ok.

But when I try to set the sync up via Bluetooth it just doesn't happen: it ends with my device telling me it cannot find a computer with an Activesync connection.

Verbatim: Cannot connect using Bluetooth to a PC that supports Activesync

Well, actually this is somewhat true, as Activesync has been replaced by WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center), part of MS's policy of when an application has finally become stable and dependable it gets replaced with something nascent and buggy. However, the USB connection to WMDC is just fine. The properties of my computer's BT connection to the device lists the service connected to it as 'Active Sync Bluetooth Service"

I've tried web searches on this, but haven't found any such complaints from Win7 users, only dated Vista/XP posts. I figure if I have a problem someone else probably has as well and the solution (or dilemma) is on the net somewhere.

I'm not new to this, and have done the sync-setup game with my device in both XP and Vista. I tried all the old tricks, such as alternating which thing discovers the other, but still get the same message. I even uninstalled all the WMDC/Activesync stuff and let Win7 go on the net to download a new version, but the problem remains.

At least I can sync via cable.

Anyone else have this problem?

:)
