This is sad news for many dedicated Ford Falcon owners and V8 Supercar followers in Australia. Can't see a front wheel drive Taurus running around Bathurst!

Falcon could go, Ford boss warns

Posted 31 minutes ago

The future of the all-Australian Ford Falcon is in doubt after the company's chief outlined the carmaker's plans on the eve of the Detroit motor show.

Full story here!

I think they will against the GM FWD model that would be introduded if Ford stop making RWD only a matter of time until one or the other makes the move. Then they can both ship them to THAILAND.

V8 SuperTaxis will evolve along with what ever platform they have to use, lets face it though, at the moment they are hardly indicative of the road going equivalent.

If they axe the RWD Falcon platform surely they could use the RWD Mustang one instead ?

Anyways bring back the orginal Group A format, V8 supertaxis are boring.

Everything going global and green. The best time of Autofreaks and V8 lovers (like me) is over. I guess in 20 years we drive all electric powered cars or what ever. But who knows, if we are still here in 20 years?

Yes the rumbling Detroit Steel V8 Stereo Sound (whit all the side effects) you CAN'T replace with some China made electric motor!

There was talk of a twin turbo 4 pot engine going in the 2014 Foulcan but like a lot of statements coming out of Ford they are hard to believe! When you see it in the showroom you know it's true!

The Oz market is to small (always has been) to see super effective/innovative engineering solutions being introduced by any car company on local assembled/manufactured products.

Zero aussie made cars will be imported into Thailand. The Detroit of Asia.

I'm sure Chevrolet Thailand will sell you a fully built up imported Australian Lumina if you want. The' Detroit of Asia' in your dreams :) and the Thai Governments, the only "Detroits" in Asia will be in China or India the big players are only giving Thailand lip service while it suits them.

Thats a pretty bold statement, got any factual proof that Chebby Thailand will import a 'one off' vehicle if requested ??

On the roads of Thailand now as we speak so over to you for a bold statement that they are not, obviously not a Vios so you have to know what it is when you do see one and i said nothing about "one off" requests.

They have been selling the 3500cc Aussie Lamuna since 2003 at 1,99 mill baht. Made in Aussie, more than 3000cc, taxed as a thai 3000cc. Odd tax rules :)

Slow sales though, most prefere Camry or Accord, in OZ in LOS in US.

forget about los being the detroit of asia, that belongs to China

China or Los, what's the matter. Most of business peaple overhere are anyway chineses (with Local Citizenship). For the Lumina, it's actualy similar as a Opel Omega with the 3.8 liter V6 engine from Buick, but built in Aussie. With 1.9 Mill the car is below a 3.5 liter Camry or V6 Honda. But again, this car can not sale in Los because there is no Hond or Toyota Badges on it. Similar story with the Holden Calais: Toyota had the same car with a different Badge, it was named Toyota Lexcen. I'm sure if they would imorted 15 years ago the Toyota Lexcen, instead of the Holden Calais, wich is exactly the same car, you would se thousends on the road, everywhere.

OZ Chevy Lumina is the same as US CHevy Lumina. frontwheeldrive, 3,5 auto. Rented several times in US, crap.

Opel Omega is made in OZ as Holden someting with V8 and rearwheeldrive. never seen in LOS, but seen some in Malaysia.

Both Accord 3,5 and Camry 3,5 is like 2,7 mill baht, so if cc is your desire no one beats Chevy in LOS :D

Yeah but $62,678.65 AUD is a lot of coin for a commodore !!!!

Maybe Chev would sell more of them if they marketed them better, barely a mention of them on the their website.

The Chevy lumina in LOS is similar as the Aussie Holden it's rear wheel drive, not front wheel drive. Never saw this (the same) Lumina in the states, only Malibu (wich is crap) and Impala, Maybe there is a Lumina in the states which i didn't noticed, because i could be different than overhere. The Lumina they sell here is a Opel Omega, or a Holden Monara (only Monara is 2 door instead of 4 door, but the same body and drivetrain) The Holdens, they build with 3.8 liter V6 or with the V8. The car actually is great value, powerful and economical. Even the older Holden Calais, i mentioned before, same car as Toyota Lexcen) are great and strong cars. The perfecion of a german body and the american engine but very important, it's RWD! RWD is always better, smoother and stronger suspension, than FWD Cars. Not only this, RWD cars are much easier to maintenance and repair then FWD cars. Therefore you never see a BMW as FWD. In my opinion, american still make the best engines and transmissions, but very lousy body and interior, they look great, but they have a miserable assembling and to many cheap plastic parts

Stingray, The Commodore based Lumina was not sold into the USA.

1998–2007

Since 1998, the Holden Commodore has been sold as the Chevrolet Lumina in the Middle East and South Africa, and previously in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. A coupe version based on the Holden Monaro was also sold in the Middle East as the Chevrolet Lumina Coupe.

2007-Present

Holden released the all new VE Holden Commodore in Australia in 2006. In 2007 it was rebadged and exported from Australia as the newest generation of the Chevrolet Lumina. It is currently being sold in the Middle East and South Africa. The Holden Ute is in South Africa available as the Lumina Ute

It was the Monaro (two door commodore) that was sold into the USA, as a GTO i believe.

Yes, corect, the monaro was the Pontiac GTO. I never saw the lumina in the states, only in Thailand
