I know of at least one forum in a galaxy far far away where a test of manhood is to come to ThaiVisa and see how quickly you get banned.

Sounds more like a test of numskullhood to me.

Huski's been demoted to Honarary Member also I see...

Never mind all that. What has happened to 100,000's of posts ? :)

Maybe there was a mutiny and some of the Admins ran riot, deleting thousands of posts and then had to be locked out of the site... :)

Nope, sorry to burst your conspiracy bubbles but a recent database restructuring resulted in deleted posts and posts made in zero count forums (jokes and word games) no longer being counted towards ones post count.

Yeah, was only joking - thought it would be something more functional like that, and good idea to nullify the game-thread posts. :)

Curious to see whether anyone's lost Bedlam access because of it.

There was a chap (sorry, I'm too lazy to go and quote) in the thread that Zpete first brought it up (Random Posts??) who had been a "just-over-500-member" newbie to Bedlam. He was able to reply to that point, yet his post count was 2xx.

Sorry sbk, I'm not buying that it was planned database restructuring. And, if if it was, why was it not announced before hand, or at least explained in full after the event?

One mod stated elsewhere that: "There were a few database glitches that we are sorting out. No posts have gone missing but the count may fluctuate a bit over a couple days as it's tidied up."

As someone who has lost nearly 3,000 posts I'm not happy about the the retrospectivity of the move.

While I agree most of those silly little, change one letter to make a new word, threads were asinine and were deservedly downgraded, to just wipe out everybodies previous efforts is a breach of faith towards members. Also, it has been done selectively, some word games threads have been left untouched, ie TLW in Bedlam.

Most of the posts I have lost were in the geography search threads. Some answers I placed in there took literally hours of research to arrive at. TV has probably wiped out months of my toil! Sad, but true!

Others agree with me, see Pings post in the Random thread. (another dodgy thread).

If TV wants to tidy up the forum to gain some sort of dignified status, fair enough, but to just wipe out many thousands of individuals efforts retropectively is a very poor way to treat your customers!

OC - I may be wrong here as I haven't looked in detail, but is it not the case that the posts themselves are all still there, it's just the post-count of individual members which has been reduced since this "restructuring"? If so, your hard work is still there for all to see and appreciate.

If the posts themselves have gone, though, then I agree that's pretty poor form...

I cannot agree more; I didn't visit Bedlam for some time but just noticed this discussion.

I reported a lost of 2,000 posts in Forum Support Desk and received the "explanation" as above, telling me it was because of "jokes and word games", next to "deleted" posts.

The member in front of me in members with total posts also lost 2,000 posts and I know for a fact that he doesn't post in "jokes and word games" also.

So, why did he lose them ? :)

I never took part in Jokes and Word games other than the educational Geography threads.

It would be an absolute absurd decision that posts about some weirdo arrested Drunk in Pattaya or any other nonsense thread are accounted for as REAL posts and posts in educational threads are not.

Is this the way members are treated ?...Database recalculation/restructuring ? :D

And: are ALL tens of thousands of members filtered with a microscope ? I simply can't believe that.

Isn't it strange that NOBODY from Administration or Global Mods lost any posts...? I have a copy of a message to me by a Global Mod, end December, and his count is a few hundred up since, and I lost 2,000 ?:D

IMO it's unbelievable that ALL those lost posts are accounted for, post-by-post, as someone must have done so manually and that is an impossible job.

I think it was done by wide brush strokes.

I strongly call upon fair Justice and a turnaround of this decision by the board of ThaiVisa.

I'm sure I had at least 85 posts.. Will take me weeks to regain that. :)

Posts made in the threads that were moved into jokes and word games are no longer counted towards post count. Nobody said they were gone. Just no longer counted. Please check your own history and go back to see if these posts that are so important are still there. If not, please email support. I lost post count too and frankly I am rejoicing because 25k is a tad embarrassing and I really think I need to get a life and get off this forum more often.

Do posters who have dropped below 500 still have access to Bedlam?

Not that bothered either way, just interested.

By the way if you discount responses in the tlw and rp's you will lose all of 3 posts, I thought you would like to know that :)

I concur. Personally, I think it's disgusting.

I have 2 remarks tothat SBK, and I have already written to Support (but not into greater detail as I'm awaiting further explanation)

1. It would have been fair IF it would have been explained earlier; AT THE START OF THESE THREADS that those posts were not to be accounted for. That's fair!

The board could have installed a certain date -not accounting anymore- but NOT afterwards, without any explanation.

2. The two threads I DID participate in, but LONG ago were: What's the City? and What's this Place?

The total number of posts in those 2 threads alone are 10.339; 6,292 for City and 4,047 for Place.

Old Croc lost already 3,000 posts, myself 2,000 posts and Naam also 2,000 posts (who never posted there) coming to a total of 7,000 posts or 70%.

Rarararara ? :)

It doesn't add up and it is not done fair, accurate and in time.

The board could have installed a certain date, telling members: Hey: we're not accounting for any posts anymore, done in this-and-that threads/topics/forum.

Now you gave cookies (post count) first and take them away, without any explanation later and without any proof.

A detailed and proper explanation would be most welcome.

LaoPo

Wow it's a conspiracy I tells ya. Jesus, sbk you aren't the only one who needs to get a life. People this is a web forum, the explanation has been given & the act, it cannot be undone. All this talk about fair & justice. Pur-lease, can we all just get a grip :)

This is the INTERNET, not the supreme court, the court of human rights or NATO. There is no vote or reprieve. It is done.

For whatever reason (I don't do the techie stuff) the post counts needed to be recounted & from the first time they were set (probably back in the 2002), thaivisa has since removed games & deleted posts from the add up.

So........once the recount was done, later amendments were integrated in the new count. Resulting in deleted posts & any word games etc being excluded. It is really that simple.

Not that I care, being as I don't even recall what my post count was before so have no idea how many I lost, but were those first two paragraphs really necessary?

You, as well as most other people in the world including myself, can't see the value behind having a high post count on ThaiVisa, but don't you think that post is a bit patronising towards those who do?

Not really dantilley, no. This is just my personal opinion on the matter. Anyone would think that thaivisa had assassinated Ghandi or Mother Therese or something. I just find it really pointless to be making such a huge fuss & stirring up trouble over such a minor thing. So if I sound patronising it is probably cause I am being so :)

Odd approach to take on the matter... Anyway, each to their own I suppose: after all, it's not as if you're being paid to handle people's questions and concerns on the site, so I guess they can't really expect you to be polite all the time...

^^^^

Well, Boo, it certainly looks like it.

I asked a genuine question to member Old Croc of how many posts he lost; His answer was: 3,000.

My answer to him was "thank you", for the info; nothing more nothing less. Just Thank You.

BOTH posts were deleted just between now and 2 hours ago. :)

WHY? :D

If there's nothing to hide on Forum Support Desk why delete honest and sincere questions ?

We are talking here about posts, made since many years ago, and suddenly deleted WITHOUT any prior information.

I participated myself in 2 threads: What's the City and What's this Place and I even never noticed they were moved away, last year from "Farang, Pub" etc. to "Jokes, Riddles" etc.

Those thread were started 4 years ago in end 2005/early 2006!

Why not installed a date, informing members that posts, made there are non-counting posts? Why take away posts from many years ago ?

WHO decided that I had to be removed from a 2,000 post-count ?

I can NEVER have been posting 2,000 posts in the above mentioned threads since they only have a total, combined of 10,000 and I didn't participate in other forums/threads in "Jokes".

Now it's suddenly justified and wept away with a soft broom; Sorry it's not just.

This is about OPEN information; open to anyone: post count. WE didn't invent that, it came with our membership on TV.

When I opened my eyes at a certain stage, yesterday, and I concluded: 2,000 post-count missing...what would YOU do? :D

How would anybody react if 2,000 in money is missing, without an explanation.?

Right: ask what happened and that's what members are doing now, including me: WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE DELETED POSTS?

It's honest and fair to ask so and I want to know which posts and where those 2,000 of mine were from.

It's a big mistake by the Board on TV and it can easily be turned around as it was easy to take those thousands of posts away; they were taken away from regular, honest and normal members, simple.

But nobody from the staff answered here why a post in a stupid topic about a drunk Farang in Pattaya is a GENUINE post but one in another -Geography for instance- thread is not.

Now you suddenly start talking about Internet and the Supreme Court; come on Boo it's about fair questions and members expect fair answers.

So far the answer, for whatever reason, is vague and we, members, are treated like children. :D

LaoPo

Lao Po, why are you just repeating yourself over & over when you have been given a valid explanation to the action already? What are you trying to achieve. The posts wont come back & the count wont be added to your postcount.

I don't' know why the posts in support were deleted, maybe because they were a repeat of already answered questions?

Why should thaivisa tech guys put a cap on the date just to please you, do you know if this is even possible in the database & how do you know that if they did it wouldn't cause major issues for thaivisa down the line? The forum is bigger than you & sorry to tell you but the forum doesn't revolve around you.

My reference to the supreme court was in response to your DEMAND to the board of thaivisa to reinstate your post count. FYI, There is no board. It isn't a democracy here, the re count of posts was needed for whatever reason (that is also not yours or my business) & so it was done. That is how it works.

Are posts you made 5+ years ago really that important to you that you have to keep going on about them. I mean for god sake....

How would anybody react if 2,000 in money is missing, without an explanation.?

Oh come on, if you really believe that 2k posts from a few years ago equates to monetary terms then imo you really need to just turn off your computor & go outside for a while. See the real world & get some perspective.

Here's a solution. Give all my posts to Old Croc and Lao Po. I don't mind. I would just like to retain access to Bedlam.

I get a bunch of flack for posting so much anyway. :)

Good plan - I'll donate a few hundred if anyone wants some.

Yup, I am in too, cause to celebrate, me and U.G agreeing on something :D

It's odd that the member in front of me in post count lost exactly the same as I did: 2,000 posts and HE didn't even play around in "Jokes"...

:)

But your message that it isn't a democracy here is a confirmation what many already knew.

Happy I'm living in one, at least.
