andygunther
I went to the Immigration at Samut Prakarn to extend my touristvisa. There I had to buy stamps to put on my lease contract, the amount they counted out depending on the contract length and how much you pay for the rent. Is this right... Have someone else made this experience at the immigration ? Because I had one friend going to the Immigration at the airport (Bkk) and he didn't show them the lease contract, and he also not had to pay them for any stamps. oldgeezer
Makes no sense whatsoever. What type of visa are you extending and for how long? I cant see what difference an extension to a tourist visa would make even if you were renting a 300 baht room by the day. Seems strange.
TerryLH
"... to extend my touristvisa. There I had to buy stamps to put on my lease contract,..." Do they look anything like the stamps you get at 7-11? I don't think most tourists have a lease. Did they ask you any questions about that? I live here in Thailand since 2004, but I use to go back to Sweden once every year (3-4 months) There I make a dubble entry tourist visa. Its why I have rented a house here in Bangkok. No this are not the same stamps.
monty
First report ever. As a tourist you normally never have to show anything, just fill out the TM7 form and pay 1900 Baht (along with copies and photo's). As mentioned before, most tourists extending their visa's will not have any paperwork as they will be staying in hotels/guesthouses.
Mario2008
It are tax stamps, with which you pay certain taxes. Guess immigration wanted to make sure someone is paying their taxes. But indeed, never seen before.
jdinasia
Sounds like what I went through to get my occupancy letter in Phuket. The 'stamps' were cheap.
lopburi3
I suspect you rent a house and the owner never reported you to Immigration (a requirement) or pays tax.
lectito
It sounds like stamp duty. The Revenue Department page explaining the rates of stamp duty you are meant to pay on your rental agreement: www.rd.go.th/publish/37773.0.html
TerryLH
If they are revenue stamps, he shouldn't be the one paying for them. I guess it's a small enough amount not to worry about, but I think if it was me, I'd reduce my next months rent by that much. OP, does that look right to you? It would be 1฿ per thousand, times the number of months under contract. Contract for 1 year at 10k per month would be 120฿ in stamps.
