Rider's Delivery Drama: Mistaken Identity Causes Romantic Confusion

A food delivery rider sparked online laughter after being mistaken for a customer's lover, only to become entangled in a comedic misunderstanding with her boyfriend.

In a TikTok video posted by @basnobu23 on May 16th, the rider, Bas, shared a phone call that started innocuously but quickly derailed. The customer's boyfriend confronted Bas, mistaken, believing he was a secret lover due to the frequent calls. As they conversed, it became clear that the boyfriend was massively mistaken.

"Are you her lover?" the boyfriend demanded. Bas replied, "No, no, I'm not," leading to more confusion and tension.

Despite Bas's attempts to explain he was merely a Grab rider delivering food, the boyfriend remained sceptical. It wasn't until the customer clarified that the heated exchange simmered down, leaving the boyfriend red-faced.

Customer’s boyfriend: Why are you calling? Are you her lover?
Rider: No, no, I’m not.

Customer’s boyfriend: F*ck you!
Rider: Hey, it’s not what you’re thinking! I’m not her lover.

Customer’s boyfriend: Are you not? You call her often, and you say you’re not her lover. Then who are you?
Rider: You’re misunderstanding me. I’m not her lover.

Customer’s boyfriend: It’s too often. Stop calling her!
Rider: I’m so confused now. Bro, listen to me! I’m not her lover! I’m a Grab rider, coming to deliver her food.

Customer’s boyfriend: Huh, Grab rider? (Darling, are you ordering food from Grab?) You are waiting to deliver food, right?
Rider: Yes. Why are you complaining so much?

The video accumulated over 4,600 likes and nearly 1,000 comments, as Thai TikTok users found the situation both entertaining and relatable. Bas explained in the comments that he had called the woman several times because she hadn't answered her phone.

Comments from users were a mix of amusement and sympathy, with many noting the boyfriend's overreaction and the woman’s failure to inform him about the food order.

When asked about the aftermath, Bas revealed that, despite the awkward encounter, he successfully delivered the food to the couple. The boyfriend, now aware of the misunderstanding, appeared sheepish.

Interestingly, Bas mentioned that this isn't an isolated incident; he's been mistaken for a customer's lover on multiple occasions, a testament to the sometimes bizarre, often humorous world of food delivery.

Never realised that the food delivery job had that much of risk!

Tips can be worth it...

I'd say that the woman might do well to leave the relationship. It obviously has no future, with him not trusting her. We know that in Thailand such 'misunderstandings' can sometimes have extremely serious consequences.

But if paid automatically on line when the rder is placed the payment covers:

- The food cost.

- The delivery charge.

On arrival at the house no further payment outstanding

Rider hands over the package and (from my Thai son's friend who does this job when not at uni lectures) 99% of customers don't give any extra tips. Buyer accepts the package and closes the door, no further interaction.

My son and his Thai wife buy on line a lot. They keep some cash ready to give delivery riders / drivers a tip 20 to 30 Baht.

A tip can also be added to the payment.

Yes but many vendors just don't do that / have no intention of doing that.

As the vendors see it 'not their problem'.

Nothing to do with the vendors, the Grab app gives that option to tip the driver using the online payment facility.

More like a "testament" to the fragile nature of relationships and the insecurity of those engaged in them 😁

Probably fake.  🙄
