Songkhla native Duangrat Romyen confessed to killing her boyfriend, but claimed the stabbing was accidental.

PHUKET TOWN: -- A teenager charged with manslaughter said she was acting in self-defense when she stabbed her boyfriend to death early this morning.

The suspect, 18-year-old Songkhla native Duangrat Romyen, was presented along with other criminal suspects at a press conference at Phuket City Police Station this morning.

Miss Duangrat told police that her boyfriend, 32-year-old Phuket native Jamlong Soongnern, often got drunk and physically abused her.

According to the suspect, at about 1:30am Mr Jamlong approached her in a drunken state at their rented home on Srisuthat Road in tambon Rassada.

She held up a kitchen knife to defend herself but Mr Jamlong continued to press forward.

Mr Jamlong lost his balance and fell onto the knife with his shoulder, Miss Duangrat claimed.

Miss Duangrat called an ambulance, which rushed Mr Jamlong to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
