The News...the Nation?

Featured Replies

Just curious & thought to ask .......

I see the main icon here reads The Nation...Thai Visa Forum

Does The Nation newspaper own Thai Visa Forum?

While reading the news clipping section I see posts that mention news clips but also say they cannot quote the source because it is not allowed.

So I read the stickies & saw this by sbk...

Do not post, quote or link from either the Bangkok Post, Associated Press (AP) or Phuket Wan. Please do not use any of these sources as they will be deleted.

Use of the news clippings to lobby for a political group, party or individual is not allowed.

Fully sticky here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/News-Clippin...08#entry3248208

Is that because the Nation does own this site? Is the Bangkok Post considered an opposing view to The Nation?

Last year during Songkran I was there & read both papers. It did seem they had different views but then again that is how newspapers are anywhere else. AP is pretty well considered a good source worldwide so again I wondered what the reason was for the disallowing of info reported by them....Perhaps that is a copy write rule?

I wondered about the reasoning for exclusion of any because it seemed at odds with the second quoted statement about lobbying for a group, party etc.

Since allowing just one view seems to do just that.

Anyway as I said just curious & wondered to ask.

The Bangkok Post doesn't allow quotes for copyright reasons. I don't think this restriction is is unique to Thaivisa.

Thanks Endure !

So as to the Thai Visa logo....Is the Nation the owner or?

And you've been a member for 3 years and this is the first time you've noticed? Where have you been, reading the hot bum thread?

The Nation and ThaiVisa entered a partnership agreement whereby we are allowed to quote their articles fully instead of by fair use as most other news sources allow (first three sentences and a link) and we link our forum to their site.

The Bangkok Post does not allow us to post or quote or link in anyway, and has made it clear that the only way Bkk Post articles will be allowed on TV is as an RSS feed, TV does not work this way, its a forum where people make commentaries etc. So, no Bkk Post.

There is only one owner of TV and the Nation has no direction over content, discussion, policy or anything else.

Sorry to burst any conspiracy theory bubbles since I know so many members have them, but thems the facts.

Thank you for explaining.

I wonder though why The Nation doesn't have their own Forum Topics but lead "Latest Forum Topics"* straight into Thaivisa.com .... :) ??

For outsiders, (people reading the news in/about Thailand -certainly right now-) it certainly looks like Thaivisa is (partly) owned by The Nation.

LaoPo

Its part of the agreement. Which I believe has been explained before.
