Hi All..(especially Scouser,i am a liverpool fan as well and will be watching the mighty reds beat the italian faggots!)

I have just married my g/f in koh samui,we have a 2 month old son and i would like to get her a settlement visa to uk(2 year).

She has been before last year on a tourist 6 month visa.

I have the revelent VAF2 form to fill out...can you please help me a bit and answer a few quesions that you have probably been asked before.

1.How much is the fee?

2.Can the visa application be done by post?

3.Do i have to be the sponser?(maybe stupid question!)

4.What letters do i need?and any other papers to support the application?

There are probably more but that will do to start.

I am getting my son a thai passport first to get him to uk then will apply for a uk one.I am a bit cofused about the sponser bit as i have not worked full time in uk for ages and have now finished work in thailand at the moment....

Cheers for reading!

Hi Lee,

1. The fee is £260 per application payable in baht.

2. Your wife can apply by post but will have to attend Bkk for an interview at some point.

3. Yes, you should write a covering letter detailing your relationship and intentions.

4. You need to show the visa officer:-

i) your wife's passport

ii) your passport

iii) evidence that your wife can be supported without claiming benefits; e.g. 6 months bank statements and wage slips (if applicable)

iv) evidence that you have somewhere to stay in the UK

v) evidence of your relationship.

vi) your marriage certificate (original and translation)

If you are not working at the moment you will have to show the visa officer that you have either a job to return to in the UK or funds from another source; e.g. parents. If you will be relying upon the latter, then whoever is acting as guarantor will need to prove that they have the ability to fulfil their obligation. This equally applies if you are going to be living in someone else's house. I would still supply evidence of your relationship like photos etc. but the best proof that you have is the existence of your son.

Although you were not married when your son was born, the fact that you now are may legitimise his birth in which case he will be British and to get him a British passport is cheaper than getting a visa. Here's the relevant embassy link.

Don't post any queries today after 17:00 BST as I'll be in the process of getting steadily inebriated whilst celebrating the Reds' triumph.

Cheers,

Scouse.
