The Best Internet For A New Apartment - Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hello everybody.

I will be moving to Bangkok with a friend in one week for a long time. We are looking for a good internet (+ phone line) ADSL connection. We are planning to go for a 8-10 megabyte one.

We checked out True, which seems to be the most popular, but experience tells me that the most used ones often get busy, especially at night, and run slower.

What do you suggest me to do? Any provider to suggest me? Where do we find the best value for money? And good speed 24 hours?

Thank you everybody for your help.

Cheers,

There's no such thing as "value for money", not when it comes to internet access in Thailand. If you want good reliable service, it will cost you. I'd go with either True or 3BB and steer clear of TOT adsl.

Depending on what company provides you phone line (i.e., TOT, True, etc) will determine what internet providers are available to you. For example, if you have a TOT line, you can't get True internet service (or vice versa). And the quality of your phone line makes a big, big difference regardless of what phone company provides the line.

But True and 3BB seems to get significantly better internet package ratings than TOT here on ThaiVisa...but there an many folks who get good service from TOT. It's a crap shoot to a degree.

I agree -- quality of the phone line makes all the difference. I should know since I've been having constant problems with my TOT line for the past several months now, with no end in sight. Unfortunately, I can't get True, 3BB or even CAT Hinet in my area (no available nodes) so I'm stuck. I don't have any issues with my current ISP (Ji-NET), it's the poor quality line or DSLAM equipment that's affecting ADSL service. This has been verified time and time again.

I could get a new line installed by TOT. But due to the lack of initiative on their part to fix my current one, getting a new line from them is not an option; not to mention that it ain't free either.

Thanks guys. The owner of the place, who is very helpful, told me I can do whether True whether TOT, no problem. So I am really open to any choice.

A friend (who does not know much just like me) suggested TOT coz he says there must be less users. But if you tell me it's not worth it, I might stick to True.

I had True 2 years ago the first time I lived in Bkk, it was good but I have to say that if you want to watch streaming at 9 pm, when everybody is online, you simply can't. I had just a 4 mb though.

Thank you. Any other suggestion is welcome!

On 3BB I've peaked at 1.3MB/s on the 16 Megabit package. So you may want to consider that as a third option if available. I've had True, CSLOXINFO, TOT, and 3BB. TOT is a nightmare unless you get lucky. CSLOXINFO is okay but overpriced. True is generally okay to good. 3BB I've had less than a month but am still feeling positive and I added an extra line with them since TOT is my only other choice. When I tried to order TOT they changed my line speed downwards and changed the telephone number they had given me. So I'm not so happy with them. I've found 3BB to be excellent for streaming and VPN. But whenever you move somewhere in Thailand you should triple check your internet options before moving. I've always checked but have often been misled or lied to.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will surely ask.

It seems weird to me how things are still not that advanced when it comes to internet connections... Developing countries are usually pretty good; they invest much in new technologies. But it seems like in Bangkok's jungle we still need to pay attention! :-)

Tell that to the folks at MICT. Censorship seems to be the number one priority as opposed to improving internet infrastructure. :)
