(This has probably been asked before, but apart from the fact that I can’t be buggered, there could be some usefulness in taking it up again, given the membership of Bedlem increases constantly)

What is the function of Bedlem?

Is it:

* A backroom snug for the lads

* A place where we could and should post about subjects not allowed on the open site

* A place where we come together to use our experience for something useful

* A place for the better quality risqué humour

* Or what?

I’d like to see what your opinions are.

As members must have 500 posts to use Bedlam, trolls are weeded out and we can relax the moderation alot more than elsewhere. Forum rules still apply, but in the loosest possible way.

There are several of those here.

It is a good thing that content was not part of the criteria for entrance to this place as I would get very lonley.

It was a totally seperate board, similar to TV, populated with members from this and other boards. I think it was more politically-orientated, and there were a lot more flame-wars going on.

As for trolls in Bedlam. Well, by having the 500 post entry limit, it does weed out a lot (most) of the trolls. Most trolls on TV get spotted and punted fairly quickly. Some come back under new names for awhile, others just move on to different boards.

I do believe the original Bedlam was an invitation only forum. Not sure how the approval process was done, but eventually it was changed to the "500+ Post" criteria we have now.

The levels above Bedlam aren't discussed, period.

That's the first rule of "The Other Levels", One Does NOT Talk About The Other Levels.

That rule is enforced even more strictly than the "No discussion of mods or moderation issues rule" !

The Bearpit was located at the bottom of the Thaivisa main forum back in the day. Due to the heated debate and, possibly, posters it attracted, it was later separated from the main forum and lived its own life independent of Thaivisa.

In the beginning, Bedlam was known as the 'VIP forum', and was invitation only. A few people including its makers were invited at first, and could then nominate and invite people in turn. The people not part of the VIP forum felt left out, and so it was decided to make it a forum anybody could get access to, provided they had managed to produce 500 posts without getting banned.
