Bangkokians Unperturbed by Heavy Security

BANGKOK: -- Scenes of soldiers resting in the vicinity of temples have become a usual sight and Bangkok residents who visit these temples do not feel intimidated.

As for the current political stalemate, a majority of city dwellers believe the prime minister is dedicated to finding a solution, but don't think the protest leaders have the country's benefit at heart.

Despite the red-shirt leaders bringing up how the military posts in various temples have caused inconvenience to the public and the monks, a majority of the public say they have not been inconvenienced.

On the contrary, the public feel safer with the soldiers nearby. Monks are uncomfortable commenting about the situation stating that it is a political matter.

The public also feel that the declaration of the Internal Security Act has not interfered with their daily life.

Booth vendors at the Red Cross Fair admit that soldiers' presence is necessary in helping boost consumers' confidence.

Vendors also reveal that products are already sold at discounted prices in fear of a low turnout because of the protests. They urge the protesters to open the route since the Red Cross Fair is a charity event.

While the public have been following the live broadcast of the direct talks between the prime minster and red-shirt leaders, many believe that the prime minister is dedicated to finding a solution to the political divide and the red-shirt leaders are only out to pressure the government to dissolve the House. Many believe they don't have the country's benefit at heart.
