Hello all,

I found this site is very helpfull and I need some advise from you guys, thanks in advance.

I have applied for the residency visa to Sweden and will have an interview by this month. I met my bf since 2004 and I went to Sweden 2 times now, first for a month and 3 months for the second time. what I would like to know is.. is there any problems with me to apply for the residency visa without married? we are not married but have plan to get married in 1-2 years later. So I will stay there just being bf and gf at first. But I have plan to work there in a company as soon as I get there, but I'm not sure if it helps for the visa application, any advise?

one more question is.. I knew that the tourist visa will not allow during the residency visa progress, but when I called the embassy to make sure, they say yes, I can apply for the tourist visa after the interview. It was make me confusing, anyone has the same situation?

But its great to know caz I can visit my bf sometimes during, and dont have to wait too long.

Sorry for the long questions but please give me some advise, thank you.

You don't have to be married - but it helps. But as long as the _relationship_ is strong, then that is what they focus on. And...how you dress at the interview.

You cannot apply for tourist-visa after you have noted them of your intension of staying in Sweden. You could perhaps apply for a tourist-visa, but I would reckon that it would be denied. Besides, it only takes a few weeks after the interview until the papers come.

The long wait (over a year for my wife) was the time until the actual interview. In 'migrationsverket' they said they handled the thai cases with priority since the waiting-period was so long - so they will be handled first. So once the interview is done, take it easy, start planning for everything and be ready. most likely the papers will arrive to your bf's adress before you are mentally prepared to move... =)

If you have made an appointed for an interview to apply for an "Uppehållstillstånd, 1 år" (Residental stay, 1 year), you actual application is submitted to the immigrations-department the day after the interview, with the embassys 'result' of how they think you 'scored'. They will also call your boyfriend to an interview, as I assume he is back in Sweden by now. After the application is submitted they perform their paperwork, and a decision comes - but these papers are always sent to you boyfriends Swedish adress (or where-ever your Swedish partner lives). He should then notify you of the result. If it is positive, you can go directly to the embassy and get the Visa in your passport, and you are on your way.

So, you will not get any papers in person, but your boyfriend will get them.
