BMCL adjusts subway fare charges

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metro Company (BMCL), an operator of the subway transit system, says it will adjust the subway fare charge structure with users of promotional fare cards to benefit the maximum discount.

Maj Gen. Chatichai Praditpong, manager of the company’s public relations and promotion unit, said effective from 5 June-30 September, BMCL would adopt a new subway fare charge on individual station basis for two types of fare collection: promotional cards and coins.

For promotional cards, the minimum and maximum fares are 10 baht and 25 baht for general persons, 8 baht and 22 baht for students, and 6 baht and 16 baht for children and elderly.

For coins, the minimum and maximum fares are 12 baht and 31 baht for general persons and 6 baht and 16 baht for children and elderly.

He said the fares collected on promotional cards for general persons would drop by 20% and those for students by 30% from the present level as part of efforts to encourage people to use the cards because it could provide commuters more convenience.

“The adjustment of fare charges is also made in compliance with the government’s policy on the energy conservation by encouraging people to use the mass transit system,” he said.

Good discount. :o

I thought the fare was now 15 baht flat rate for travel three or more stations and less than 3 stations was 10 baht. I think that was implemented after the accident to encourage people to ride. I guess that is now expired and they are trying to boost fares. ANyway, I like the subway and will continue to use it.
