3 year multiple entry visas to be introduced

BANGKOK (thaivisa.com): -- The Ministry of Foregin Affairs will soon introduce a 3 year multiple entry Non-Immigrant Visa. The validity of visas for business purposes will be extended to three years to attract investors to Thailand.

Deputy Government Spokeman Danuporn Poonakun, told the Bangkok Post that the new multiple-entry non immigrant type B (business visa) would be valid for three years.

He said the new visa is part of a goverment attempt to attract foreign investors to

operate businesses or work in Thailand. The current multiple- entry business visa is valid for one year and cost the equivalent of 5,000 baht.

A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will take a few months before the

ministry have finalised the legislation for the new three-year multiple entry business visa, which will cost double the one year fee, or around 10,000 baht

Thai Immigration will grant a 90 days stay in the Kingdom on each entry, and an extended stay could be granted for work permit holders and others up to one year at the time, according to the ministry.

The Thai embassies and consulates abroad will continue to issue the one year visa's as well as the new three year visa.

It would be nice if they did it for Non-O / Non OA as well. Particularly for the guys who just cant scrape the 400k Baht or have a highly paid job.

Is there many people interested in that visa? For what I see, most long term "residents" are on a one year extension (like me) or nothing at all.

But good news anyway.... :o

I heard that if you bring 20 million, things become easier.

How many times has the government tried to introduce these new Visas, which sound just great in theory. In real life it is always up to the tyrants at the Immigration, and they have no reason whatsoever to grant somebody a better visa as long as they don't gain anything from it themselves.

Good ideas, like this 3-yr visa thing, are always ruined by corruption, always.

This is not only a "project" - it's confirmed news this morning direct from MFA.

And yes, Tornado, still have to do the run every 90 days, if not extended by the Immigration Bureau.

The VISA stuff is no more torturous than other countries I have lived in.

As long as you're on the up and up, and have a valid business / reason to be here, there's no reason to worry. For those Expats whose company pays the fees, this is awesome....

The " tyrants at Immigration " don't issue 'em at all. That's done by the tyrants at Thai Embassies and Consulate's abroad.

Good news, a step in the right direction. I heard a rumour that they were going to issue 5 year non-imm visas, maybe this is what I heard about.

I think that they are getting understaffed at immigration and a way they could solve this and make more money is to issue longer non-imm visas to those who have extended their non-imm visas for a few years, ie retirees and those married to Thais.

Tis great news, I hope we still dont have to go out every 3 months......

well it says you are able to stay 90 days in the country so you STILL have to leave every 3 months if you do nothing... ie not working on a work permit coupled to a stay permit...

cheers

wish they do the same for the Non-Immigrant Ed (student) visa. the number of the foreign students studying here in Thailand has increased enormously in recent years. I am sure a lot of tourists will start to do the illegal use of this visa type to increase their length of stay. Here in Thailand, false business documents are just matter of money to get.

Hey folks count your blessings. My Thai wife and I work In Aceh and we have to leave indonesia every 30 days. Costs a return air ticket Meulaboh to Medan then to Singapore, KL or BKK then US$25 for a visa on arrival. Her visa is free but single entry max 30 days.

By the way Mattnick I thought that the AO visa needs 800k in the kitty. Do you know something that I don't.

Cheers

^ I think you mean OA Visa (retirement) and yes 800K is correct.

Yes and for those that may not know for OA Retirement visas if you have not got the spare required kitty it can instead be 800K pa pension (certified by a simple letter from your BKK Embassy) . It can even be a combination of each like say 600K pa pension and 200K in your Thai bank account. Useful for folk like me who have the pension but not the kitty now after using my capital on buying my house, furniture and car here for my retirement (and no you cannot use your house/condo investment as the 800K kitty).

What would be nice would be for OA visas for say 3 or 5 years with no or only annual reporting instead of the 90 day lark. WIshful thinking but likely may never happen.

At least we have it a lot easier than a Thai wanting to visit our countries for a holiday or protracted stay with their falang husbands.

First impressions - Wow great idea

Second thoughts - It's only for visas applied for outside of country, retains the 90-day bounce, appears to drop the visa to one-year extensions + 90-day address registrations once the work permit is obtained, and extension/renewal is done in-country.

Tertiary thoughts - 5,000 for a year's multi-entry visa??? Obviously there's some clever marketing going on here - the fee for a one year visa, or one year extension, is 1,900 Baht ...... it's the addition of multiple-entry that's hiking the price - that costs 3,000 for a year's worth of re-entry permits.

As per my visa - Non-imm M - I pay 1,900 for the annual extension and every year they try to make me add the multiple entry application (costing 3,000) and every year I decline stating that I have too much work inside Thailand to go to other countries. I also remind them about the cost of a single re-entry stamp and why pay 3,000 for something I may never use - they appear to like that (it shows smarts).

Conclusion - I'll await the final rules being published before getting too excited

----------------

Related topic - Chiangmai Labour Office now have a tatty photocopy of an official looking announcement under the glass at the work permit desk announcing that the paperwork to apply for the work permit costs 100 Baht (+ application fee).

Anyone else being made to "buy" the application form for a work permit - i.e. offices other than Chiangmai?

Not sure how you figure that. To a western country it is a one time process for life - you don't have to depend on non immigrant visa/extension each year. Different yes - easier overall; I would not agree.
