Reckon you should check with Mr B.J. as I believe it happened in his old stamping ground, the Rochdale Riviera.

Probably the after effects of blackpudding & mushy-peas.

:) Not been back for a while ken. I'm off to London in a few weeks on business, so i might try and fit a couple of days in the Dale whilst I'm back in the UK.

Op. Why is she clearly a bigot? If questioning a party leader on issues that concern you and within the area you live, makes you bigot then I think we are using the word extremely loosely and not in the way it was intended to be used. If she is a bigot, I think we all are.

Doesn't take away from the fact that Brown has severely shot himself in the foot. And good riddance, cos nobody voted him in, in the first place.

I think the broadcaster is at fault here. To fail to retrieve a microphone, and then record the PM in a private conversation as he drives away in his vehicle is a massive breach of privacy if not the law! To then replay this conversation to the woman and put it on the airways is beyond belief!

I have no particular interest in the British elections nor do I care who wins.

I agree that there is an ethical issue with recording him in private but nevertheless, he has shown his true colours and the contempt he holds for people who dare to question him.

Why Gordon craved the PM position God only knows. At least as chancellor, a job I thought he thrived in, he had an excuse for his personality. He's paying for it now with bells on.

Iraq was the undoing of Blair / Labour. I'm surprised it lasted this long in all honesty.

I'm disappointed. I thought this was a topic about fishing. :) We use a gaff to haul large fish out of the water after we've hooked them.

Carry on with the political discussion. :D

Spot on Bags. It's a disgrace that they chose to publish it.

The British public should be asking what is really happening in the corridors of power, when "the P.M. is swanning around No.10 in gaffs, bustiers and garter belt."... :)

He's just doing what most British politicians do.

Why should the PM be any less bent than the rest? He's been in Parliament a long time.

Yeah, but who doesn't bitch and moan about this and that in private? It should not have been revealed.

What if he had started discussing troop movements in Afghanistan in his government vehicle?

Would it still have been reasonable to tape and broadcast his comments?

Well there's poltics for ya. An election turned on its head by the smallest of things.

I picked up a copy of the Sun in my local caff and notice Brown's picture is now turned to stone. :)

As good an indicator of the way this election is going as any.

Maybe Clegg will win. Anything is possible now.....not for Brown though he's toast.

Yeah, but who doesn't bitch and moan about this and that in private? It should not have been revealed.

I didn't say that it should have been revealed Uly. But the fact is, that it was aired and he got caught slagging off one of his voters.

There are several important factors here.

One, Blair always had his own microphones, reputedly two, Cameron has his own, Brown borrowed one from Sky.

Two, the BBC had a committee meeting to discuss the morality of broadcasting a private chat and only went public when it was all over the air waves.

Sky broadcast immediately.

However, on the Jeremy Vine show he heard it for the first time without any prior knowledge, double standards I'd say.

If we accept this sort of privacy incursion, what next will we accept.

Oh well no worries, it can't lead to Extraordinary Rendition can it? Ummm....................

I actually did not intend to comment on your post in particular, but rather on the situation. I just used your post as an example. :)

who owns sky? whose media network has publically backed the tories this election? who is mega-rich, pays almost no tax in the UK and still wants to pay less? who wants to break up the bbc and buy pieces of it up?

Sky+Sun+Cameron v BBC+Mirror+Brown ....Well to update the newspaper reports Sun is reporting politically on the front page while the forgettable Mirror had some old cobblers about soap operas....Draw your own conclusions. :)

I had better go and buy the Sun then for some quality news..........

Something which didn't go down too well with Times readers this morning. There were a couple of shirty letters on the letters page.

He always chooses/backs the winner. Delete as applicable. :)

i'd say 'creates' actually.

what a shame this gordon brown didn't make himself known earlier in the campaign. stirring stuff:

It's only Gordon Brown's gaff for another couple of days - then they'll all take it in turn to live in No 10 for a week or two, before turning it over to the next 'leader'.

(Oh, sorry - you were talking about GB's gaffe. I thought you were discussing his free digs - something like the Sally Ally places or the old Rowton House accommodation)

mmmmm

Gordon did really well when he sold the UK's gold reserves at less than 300$, sound thinking that.

Reckon he has really "Gaffed himself now."

Reckon he has really "Gaffed himself now."

Nope - he's learnt from the master.

He's trying to join forces with that other real loser (Nickelarse Clegg) and form a coalition of tossers, promising to step down as PM after a short while (as did his teacher, Tony Bliar). Then they'll sit together and sort out a method of fixing proportional representation voting to ensure they always have the majority between them.

Personnally I say we should have PR of a sort similar to Australia, with the four countries (England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland) having their own parliaments and premiers, with an overall senate for foreign policy and defence only. All other matters to be settled at national level.

Humph many people want a reduction in the mulitiple tiers of government here in Oz - starting with the states. Problems: cost of government; disputes over sovereignty (legislative authority) with the occasional and hugely expensive - to tax payers - constitutional interpretation battles in the High Court in re defining the boundaries of exclusive, shared and delegated powers - particularly re taxation rights; argument in respect of funding arguments between state and federal - particularly where the arguing state and the federal body are of different political persuasions; duplication of functions and supporting infrastructure; and the list goes on...

Heaven forbid that Britain gets MMP, proportional representation.

Here in NZ, with MMP, the tail wags the dog.

I like the preferential system as in OZ.

If your first choice misses out, your vote is NOT completely lost.

Your 2nd, 3rd etc choices are counted until one candidate eventually gets over 50% preference.

Often the person with the majority on election night, but does not achieve 50%, will miss out when people's second preferences are included, brilliant.

Simplified explanation, guess Ping will have sumfin add.......LOL

NZ needs that.

Britain too, unfortunately selfish, self serving MPs from smaller parties will try to get MMP up and running.
