Someone might be wriggling his hands in distress when he see UNCLETROLL is on his case. :)

Both the government and BP have reasons to downplay the extent of the spill. For BP, the motive is financial: Under the Clean Water Act, the company could owe fines of as much as $4,300 for every barrel spilled, in addition to royalties for the oil it is squandering.

So at the extimate of 110,000 barrells a day = 473 million dollars a day and today 16 June is day 58, so thus far the fine is

$27,434,000,000 US & if they were to shut it down by the end of August that will be a total of 135 days, total fine:

$63,855,000,000 plus the royalitites for the oil squandered PLUS CLEANUP & Compensation.

Of course with filthy dirty corrupt governments like the one BO and that monkey BUSH that lead before him, its clear that theres going to be so much smoke and mirrors that nobody of any great significance is going to be held responsible.

This just keeps getting better and better. :)

sorry if repost: Simmons Says Nuclear Device Only Option to Stop Oil Flow

Bloomberg — Matthew Simmons, founder of the Ocean Energy Institute, talks with Bloomberg's Lori Rothman about BP Plc's oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico and his view that the use of a "small-bore nuclear device" is now the "only option" to stop the flow of oil.

So whos to blame?

How about starting here under the Clinton Administration, followed by the Bush Administration, followed by the Obama Administration?

Law and Technology Spur Deepwater Oil and Gas Exploration in Gulf of Mexico

John A. Duff, J.D., LL.M.

Introduction

The recent surge in oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico is due in large part to a federal law that reduces, and in some cases eliminates, royalty payments due on oil and gas taken from beneath deepwater offshore federal lands. As a result of the Outer Continental Shelf Deep Water Royalty Relief Act(1) (DWRRA or Act), as well as technological advances in deepwater drilling, oil and gas companies have increased their activities in the region and are likely to achieve quicker and larger returns on their investments as they open up new sources of oil and gas.

Why Was BP Drilling in 5,000 Feet of Water Anyway?

Justin Rohrlich, On Friday June 11, 2010, 1:00 pm EDT

Drilling in thousands of feet of water is costly and dangerous. It's also where the oil is. But the real story behind deepwater exploration and production is not so simple an equation.

"Deepwater production is a new frontier," American Petroleum Institute senior economic advisor Rayola Dougher explained in an interview with Minyanville. "The oil companies have been denied access to the outer continental shelf in the past; they haven't been allowed to explore. That's why they're out there now."

Kert Davies, research director at Greenpeace USA, disagrees. He says BP (BP) isn't drilling down a mile deep because environmental groups prevented the company from operating closer to shore. It's because, 15 years ago, oil production off the outer continental shelf was effectively subsidized by the US taxpayer when Congress passed the Deep Water Royalty Relief Act, which exempted oil companies from paying a 12% royalty on oil extracted from wells in federal waters.

In 1995, crude oil was selling for about $16 a barrel. Nobody had any interest in drilling in thousands of feet of water, and companies were beginning to focus overseas.

I suggest people stop blaming Bush/Cheney when the root of the problem began with Clinton/Gore and then continued until today by EACH Administration, including the current one.

It always boils down to the bankers and traders. They are the ones that manipulate the price of commodities. I think a barrel of oil goes through 10+ middlemen, all of whom hike the price. And at the top of the chain are the folk who have run the governments of the west since the end of the cold war, if not before... the new world order... a loose affiliation of millionaires, andf billionaires...

2 gulf wars and an American led adventure in the oil lands hasnt helped much either. I forget who started that? Seems using up the USA's own reserves might be a start in making the world a saner place.

Likewise the price of coffee jumped 20% this week on the markets.

just makes me happy I am here in isolationist Thailand, where if you really wanted, you could probably cut out most of the middlemen for the requirements of life and still live a modern life.

Every year it feels more and more like we are all just slaves to some greedy cartels.

where my tin foil hat?

Oil Prices Continue to Climb - BloggingStocks

found someone who could say it better:

Oh it could be Asia if it were not for the fact the China does not buy oil at the artificially inflated exchange prices and have made side deals with the middle east and russia for cheap oil. China buys oil for around $28 a barrel and the Chinese government is drilling for their own oil all over the globe.

Don't buy into the excuses the rats use to justify the price of oil. The only data that can be used for a justification of a price is actual consumption and demand. All which are still way off highs. Supply is everywhere and demand is still low. Tankers are still sitting full in the middle of the ocean and storage facilities are still overflowing. The price of a barrel of oil right now has nothing to do with consumption. The dollar is far higher in value than it was when oil was $35 last year yet the price has skyrocketed. But I thought a strong dollar meant oil should be cheaper. Oh yeah that's just a BS excuse.

Oil is sold to the exchange for just a few dollars a barrel and the greedy traders and speculators who sometimes sell a contract hundreds of times before an actual refiner ends up with it adds the few 100% markup.

If we didn't have Wall Street the price of oil never would have climbed above $25 over the past decade. The blame does not rest with Republicans or Democrats. The blame is all on firms like Goldman Sachs using electronic trading algorithms whose only goal is to increase the price of anything traded on the market in order to maximize revenue for a select group of wealthy individuals at the expense of the common man.

Remember when Shell said that $40 a barrel would make it profitable to drill on the ocean floor in the middle of the Atlantic. Now its oil has to be $60 a barrel to make it profitable to drill anywhere. All because Bill Clinton signed the Commodity Futures Modernization Act and a few billionaires decided that they wanted more pie.

The simple fix is if you want to buy and sell oil contracts then you need to store the oil at a location you own and must take delivery when the contract closes. No more using Cushing to roll over oil contracts month to month and facilitate the same barrel of oil being traded 700 times in 30 days.

I liked the pictures donny, i feel you have just been caught up in a little 'muscle exercising program' :):D

Yeah sorry about that.

I liked them too especially the 1st one #126

no worries guys, i dont mind the banter and stuff that goes on the forum, everyones entitled to their opinion, and after all, it would be a boring place if everyone agreed to everything. It just gets a bit stupid when ppl start the nit picking. Sometimes im guilty of it but it achieves nothing at the end of the day except raising a bit of blood pressure :D

I have children, too. They're adults (?) now, but the question of whether or not it was ok to bring children into this world was something we thought about back in the day. Of course, the answer is yes, and the remark was tongue in cheek.

Nothing comes natural. It's taught. I will in the future, try to keep my remarks within restraints (with the excveption of futbol). However, as one of my favorite actors, Christopher Plummer, in one of my favorite movies (I can never remember the title, but he played Sherlock Holmes in it.), said, "If I appear offensive, it's because I've been offended." That's not offered as an excuse, but we all should learn some humility.

Why do we choose to have sociopaths run the world?

Anyway.......

Some folks on Alabama coast are claiming BP is spraying dispersant at night now that the slick is right off their coast. The thing is this dispersant Corexit is not to be sprayed near populated areas. Yet these folks are claiming the planes are right overhead spraying the coastline.

The manufacturer's safety data sheet states "No toxicity studies have been conducted on this product," and later concludes "The potential human hazard is: Low."

According to the Alaska Community Action on Toxics, the use of Corexit during the Exxon Valdez oil spill caused "respiratory, nervous system, liver, kidney and blood disorders" in people. According to the EPA, Corexit is more toxic than dispersants made by several competitors and less effective in handling southern Louisiana crude

Corexit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another things is the name dispersant is a bit misleading when it comes to this Corexit as it seems to only sink the oil to the oceans floor.

Reportedly Corexit is toxic to marine life and helps keep spilled oil submerged. The quantities used in the Gulf will create 'unprecedented underwater damage to organisms.' 9527A is also hazardous for humans: 'May cause injury to red blood cells (hemolysis), kidney or the liver'.

I had already heard this on various news programs here in the States that have many marine biologists up in arms.

Yep........
