Yep, stayed there a month ago.

It's by the beach and ok for kids I would say.

Take a look here for reviews:

We got a deal through https://www.hotelclub.com

When someone says the place is 'run down', I think it depends on what price they have paid?

If you get a room for a competitive price then I think you will be happy. If you pay over the odds then the place might seem a little disappointing?

I would say the place is fine and this was my second visit there.

Hope this helps?

It's a good place and on the beach, until the tsunami I used to refer visitors there. Everyone working or staying there wew killed in the tsunami.

A close friend of mine who works there, says only one person was killed in Patong Bay Resort in the tsunami. Most people escaped up stairs or ran away.

I've stayed there several times, but not recently. The prices have gone up quite a bit.

During a winter storm a couple of years ago the beach virtually disappeared and the restaurant was in danger of being undermined. The ocean was about a dozen metres from my room that night. You don't want to be much closer. :)

While not five star it is a nice hotel and the location (close to Bangla) can't be topped.

Old Croc,

are we taking about the same place ? Patong Bay Garden Resort is on the beach side of Thaweewong, between Bangla and Swadirak. If so, I stand by my report. But I've just had a funny feeling, do I mean Patong Beach Garden Resort ?

I can't ride down to see as I'm in Melbourne just now. The resort I mean has no upstairs to flee to and you can't outrun a tsunami anyway.

I stayed there last week and confirm Patong Bay Garden Resort is on the beach side of Thaweewong and is a 2 storey building. As the other posters have said, the place is a bit tired..at best 3 stars, but has an unbeatable location, a great beach bar and a nice deep pool.

We are talking about the same place Bob, and it definately does have an upstairs as the other poster has also confirmed.

I've stayed there two or three times and the location is the major attraction. Some of the rooms are probably a bit tired, but the Junior Suite I used last time was fairly good.

My little lady wasn't working there at the time of the tsunami, she started a year or two later, but is sure loss of life was minimal. :)
