Russian tourist dies in Phuket motorbike crash

PHUKET: -- One Russian tourist is dead and another critically injured following a motorbike collision in Karon yesterday.

Chalong Police were notified at 2am of a crash near the PTT service station on Patak East Road.

The body of the deceased, identified as 28-year-old Russian national Sergei Poliakov, was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

His passenger, 28-year-old Savila Donovakina, was also critically injured.

She was rushed to Patong Hospital for emergency treatment.

According to initial investigation, the Russians were riding along Patak East Road when their motorbike crashed into a Honda Civic driven by 22-year-old Karon resident Weeradate Gonesrang.

The red-plated Honda was still at the scene when police arrived.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

That's unusual "The red-plated Honda was still at the scene when police arrived".
