Lovers Of Lumphini Park

Featured Replies

For me Lumphini park is 'the Jewel in the Crown' of Bangkok.

Until yesterday,Thursday, access to the park was generally unaffected by the Red Shirts and many regulars could still be seen doing their exercise routines.

Yesterday the park closed early at 6.00 pm in anticipation of the government crackdown.

As of now, Friday morning, I do not know if the park is open or not, and which gates are safe to enter by.

For members who would like to restart their park visits as soon as possible perhaps other members could post their experiences here.

Off to the park now

Thanks

Unfortunately life is at stand still for next few days around here

I would think that Suan Lum has been cordoned off from outsiders. Fighting along Rama IV and shots fired into Suan Lum. :)

So did you go to the park ? If you did - was there any gunfire going on at the time ?

I walked past on Rama IV about 9.00 am. The park gates were closed and troops were out. Red shirts were firing rockets at an approaching helicopter. However the Rama IV - Wireless Road - Sathorn intersection was under Red shirt control. Two army water cannon trucks were in the process of being trashed.

Looks like the park will be out of action for a while so here is good and relatively safe alternative for those needing a jog or a run and are located in the Silom Sathorn area:

This is the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line between Sathorn and Yen Akad along Narathiwat road. The surface is soft, smooth and flat (no step up and downs), and as yet is unused except for a few motorbikes.

OK, so there is a fair bit of pollution from the cars passing by, but traffic is relatively low at the moment. Also cars are blocked off from entering the bus lane so no need to worry about being run-down (apart from the speeding motorbikes)

Enjoy
