Subway failure blamed on engine malfunction

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok's beleaguered underground railway system encountered a further problem today when a train experienced engine failure at the Phahonyothin Station.

Mr. Prapat Chongsa-nguan, Governor of the Mass Rapid Transport Authority of Thailand (MRTA), which overseas the subway system, said that the incident had only lasted 15 minutes, and that the system was now fully operation.

Passengers on the defective train were told to wait for the next train, and the defective train was taken to the Bang Sue Terminal, from where it will be shunted to be repaired.

The incident is the latest in a string of incidents for the Bangkok's subway system.

Over 100 people were injured in January when one subway train slammed into another, an incident blamed on a computer malfunction.
