CITES status vulnerable.

First one of these I have seen.

Unfortunately in some countries they are still hunted for food,

Although they are not actively hunted here in Thailand if one is caught it will appear for sale in a market.

Another nice visitor today in our garden..

Nice little Vine Snake. Low level venom. hatches live young and swells and flattens body to show black and pale scale patterning when threatened. Looks like a totally different snake when in defensive threat mode.

Something else I don't know the name of.

I call it puncture weed.

A ground hugging little creeper with sharp seeds that I am forever picking out of my bike tires and fixing the resulting punctures.

If I stayed on the roads there would be no problem but there are so many interesting things down the little sidetracks

Seen these little fellas running around on the ground a couple of times but until this morning never been able to get a photo.

My little 10yr old Thai mate tells me they are not a squirrel and the Thai name is Pang Phon.

Had a hunt around and it would seem he is right they are in fact a Siberian Chipmunk, scientifically known as Tamias sibiricus.

This little fellow have been a week in my toilet. His duty is to keep the toilet clean of creepy crawlers.

My task is to domesticate it. :)
