Pattaya bars and pubs gear-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

PATTAYA: -- On Thursday Night we went down to Walking Street in South Pattaya to see how the bars and other entertainment venues are preparing for the upcoming FIFA World Cup which began on Friday. Many have decorated their bars with flags, many of which appeared to favor the English National flag. We did notice that many of the bars were quiet and one bar owner told us that he expected the world cup to be a bit of a non-event here in Pattaya

Most but not all bars that have invested heavily in this (HD, New TV, etc) are going to lose their arse. There is just not enough tourist and punters in town to justify the investment.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know why the HD channel showing the world cup is without commentators?

I got the HD channels just for this event, and it's not the same without the comments.

World Cup rights for Thailand were purchased from FIFA by a Thai company called RS. They did not buy any audio rights. TrueVision bought the rights to show WC matches - in HD only - from RS, but without audio as RS had no audio to sell.
