K-Lite Codec Pack

Featured Replies

I am not sure about installing the k-lite codec pack on my win7 64bit.

I use vlc already which plays anything but i want to use my avivo video converter which apparently needs codecs not supported by win 7 to work with avi and mkv files.

anything to be wary of????

thanks in advance.

Codec packs are always something to be wary of, when multiple codecs are fighting amongst themselves as to which one is best for a file many issues can occur.

I don't know what it is that you are converting but you can most likely do it with vlc.

Open the file you want to convert.

In the menu go File->Convert/Save and choose your options.

Personally I haven't installed a single codec on any computer since I discovered VLC.

The K-Lite package has a lot of adjustments that can be done, if you care to study up on all these things. It is very easy to check (or un-check) just one box and have everything go south.

If you're willing to spend an hour or two learning all the nuances the package gives you tools for dealing with just about anything involving codecs.

Personally, I just install and accept the default settings, and if a file can't play properly I open it in vlc. Life's too short... :)
