Not surprising at all. Thailand has beautiful hospitals with an army of nurses in clean white gowns parading around the latest MRI and pharmaceutical offerings but behind the facade is often a lack of training and diagnostic ability. I would never have surgery in Thailand unless it was an emergency. I think for your average procedure or treatment Thailand is ok but when something is even slightly out of the ordinary Thai's are not known for 'thinking outside the box' and figuring out how to handle it.

Agreed, Medicine in Thailand is a business, and like any business, it is open to the same levels of corruption and lack of regulation.
