Have You Calibrated Your Plasma ?

Featured Replies

Other than just adjusting brightness, contrast and sharp levels using those grey-scale test patterns, have you used any of the 'do it yourself' hardware calibration kits ? Would be interested to hear of any recommended kits and if available here. Most of the ones I've looked at seem to be for pc monitors rather than plasma screens. Thanks.

I had to calibrate my Samsung LCD when I recieved it, the colour settings were way off.

I googled and found a review site that gave a suggested set of settings,

then tweaked a little whilst viewing a set of colour bars.

Since then I discovered the Service Menu

For LCD models

With the TV in standby, press in quick sequence the {INFO} {MENU} {MUTE} {POWER} buttons on the remote.

The TV will turn On with the Service Menu displayed.

For Plasma

In quick sequence on the remote press:

{MUTE} {1} {8} {2} {POWER} buttons.

Gives details of what can be done.

The White Balance feature will probably calibrate your screen.

The Service menu is in fancy colours so you will need to choose a channel,

or function (say DVD) with a blank screen, in order to read it

Use at your peril.

I used "Bumptious's" calibration settings for a 9th gen Pioneer Plasma. For movies and TV it looked much better but for games I prefer the regular PC setting as the colours are more vibrant and suits video games.
