Baht Bus Cooperative meeting with Pattaya Police Chief

PATTAYA: -- The Pattaya Police Chief called a meeting with senior officials from the Pattaya Baht Bus Cooperative on Wednesday to discuss problems encountered with Baht Buses by members of the public and the Police. Police Colonel Nantawoot, Pattaya’s Police Chief was joined by his two deputies and Khun Tawat, President of the cooperative. The Colonel led the meeting and was told that around 700 Baht Buses operate here in Pattaya. He mentioned that to avoid a reduction in numbers and to prevent persistent traffic congestion problems caused by the high numbers of Baht Buses on the roads of Pattaya at any one time, he wants the cooperative to enforce a scheme which was implemented some years ago whereby Baht Buses were allocated certain routes denoted by colored stickers on their front windows.

Believe it when I see it. If they are going to have set routes, how about a route that is obligated to go to the VERY END of Jomtien Beach Road as would be the case with REAL bus routes? Won't happen? Correct.

Take half of them off the road, would solve so many traffic problems immediately!!

Spot on. Let them work alternate days, odd numbers odd days, even numbers even days, they would earn just as much and the roads would be so much clearer. Probably save them money as they wouldn't be driving around empty half the time burning up diesel for nothing!

Not that many are driving around empty. The town needs buses AND real taxi meters. Still waiting ...

I actually see a lot driving around empty.

I think you could eliminate 1/2 of them and things would be better. Or just have them obey traffic laws would be a step in the right direction. But then that would require police work...with no tea money...won't happen....

But, like you said, buses and taxis with real meters....ah...what a dream...

Baht bus drivers are still trying to charge 20 bht to go from Jomtien to Central Festival.

Yesterday when I handed the driver 10 bht he said that it was 20 bht

so after a minute or two of arguing I took my wallet out and offered him a 1000 bht note.

He was not impressed and drove away fuming.

I return from Jomtien regularly and sometimes they demand 20 baht, but I always offer 10 baht and most times 9/10 they accept it.

It helps if the bus is full and they don't know where everyone actually got on board.

Agreed Syd. Mostly they will accept 10 baht up to Pattaya Klang, but after that more will want 20. Sometimes I do just give them 20 if the bus is empty, I feel sorry for them (and also don't want a fight).
