bkkmick Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 This article says it all: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/2010/09/09/technology/AIS-announces-to-launch-iPhone-4-30137630.html I thought that only True had the rights. Good to see competition at least.
gotlost Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 AIS, TRUE and DETAC are the 3 finalist in the 3G bribery I mean 3G bidding war. So this comes as no surprise.
skippybangkok Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Yes... you did.... DTAC launched their iphone ages back.... i think before the red protests in Bangkok. Still advertising in cinema's
nikster Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 True never had an exclusive deal. They were just the first to negotiate any deal at all. DTAC came later, now AIS is jumping on the bandwagon. I think it will come end of September, there's rumors there will be an iPhone 4 version 2 which doesn't have the antenna problem.
Lammbock Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 And AIS will offer 3g service ??????? ...i don't think so. cause True doesn't and so DTAC. Only stupid EDGE.

nikster Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 cause True doesn't and so DTAC. True 3G works pretty well for me (Chiang Mai). Saw something about 3G on the news, I guess they'll do it eventually...
woodyleonhard Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Its not very good in Phuket but guess they have 3G I've tested True's 3G service in Phuket, and it isn't impressive. (Yes, it's genuine HSPA service, but billed as "experimental.") International download speeds are in the 0.2-0.3 Mbps range, which makes it considerably slower than CAT's EV-DO service. Not much better than EDGE. Phuket international download speeds are listed at http://www.live-access.com/PhuketInternet.aspx/ I Tweet about internet speeds and mobile phone developments several times a week on Twitter: PhuketPC
HDRIDER Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Hi I changed from True to AIS, true dont even cover Nai Harn with normal mobile phone network, well, not where i am living, most of the time i had to go out side to make a call
mdechgan Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I called both True and DTAC for iphone availability. Neither of them have any stock nor do they know when they will arrive for awhile now. I was talking about the 3GS model. While there are loads in MBK. This shop in Central PK had about 100 iphone 4s. What is the point in buying from True, DTAC or AIS if they only have brochures not actual phones.

I am thinking they did something to the production line to fix the antenna problem so I guess those countries with no promised release dates will have to wait for that. On the positive side, you'll be getting a fixed iPhone4. The antenna problem is definitely real as far as I am concerned. I have had maybe 1 dropped call in the last 3 years in Thailand on an iPhone 2G and an iPhone 3GS. Now with the iPhone 4, I had 3 dropped calls in 2 weeks, and I have already learned to not hold it "that way". It's pretty ridiculous for a high end product. Bumpers solve the problem but the iPhone 4 is so gorgeous naked that I usually go without despite the problem. I mean let's face it the iPhone 4 is the most beautiful phone ever designed, period. Put some bumpers on it, and it looks like your average HTC. The official Apple bumpers (which I got for free) are surprisingly ugly. I am willing to bet that Jon Ive did _not_ design them (and maybe even hates them). Will need to wait for decent 3rd party cases.
Lammbock Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Will need to wait for decent 3rd party cases. Tons are out there already. For example: http://www.switcheasy.com/ :jap:
HDRIDER Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Hi Work with a guy in France right now he got his iphone 4 two weeks ago (SFR France) he got the antanna problem as well, He got the same number on 2 sim card, other phone is an LG, look so funny the iphone is coming and going and the LG is rock steady, mind you that its also going up and down 2 block when laying on the table side buy side with his LG there is steady, he went to an SFR shop and they tried in another iphone, same story.
Lammbock Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Yesterday i called to the AIS hotline and asked if they could upgrade my network from EDGE to 3G. They say that this is only available in Chiang Mai and Kon Kaen. I really have to ask my self "Who the <deleted> needs 3g in KK??? If you compare KK to Bangkok. I relay don't understand this. But anyhow, they also said that there will be an bidding coming up next week where they will get 3g network for AIS. They clearly said that i can get all the information about that in Television, Newspaper and the Internet. SO lets hope they get this 3g network up and running a.s.a.p. cause honestly to me it is just a big joke to have 3g in Kon Kaen but not in Bangkok???? A 12 Million population city??? :jap: Lammbock
