What would be the best hotel in town to stay for 1-2 nights.

I remember the Eastern Hotel from many years ago but sure there must be more/better now. Thanks for any answers.

I guess it depends on what you mean by best and in town.

Maneechan is probably the most fancy although I have never actually been there, 1500-2400 baht. It is not convenient to the town center if you don't have transportation. http://www.maneechan.com/room.html

K P Grand is convenient for Robinsons/night market and gem market, aprox 1800 baht. This is the area I prefer and would have friends and family stay. http://www.kpgrandhotel.com/index.html

New Travel Lodge is a good value but not convenient if you are on foot, approx 800 baht. Nice pool and Farang/Thai buffet breakfast included.

I stayed at the Eastern about 5 years ago and it was a little run down then. I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to have the massage parlors and karaokes on the street behind it in easy walking distance.

Most of the other places in town that I can think of are small cheap rooms in the 200-500 baht range, well there is the Caribou Highlands but don' even think about it unless it gets some major renovations.

Didn't like the Eastern much so moved to Mark's Travel Lodge for a month ++, this back in the early '80s. Don't know about the "New Mark's Travel Lodge."

Stayed at the KP Grand last January for a couple of nights, it was OK. Sipped suds right across the street at a small Thai noodle shop next door to the 7-11, rather quieter than at the outdoor place at the KP.
