Singers With Emotion In Their Voice

Featured Replies

I am a bit surprised about Ian not mentioning Neil Young, a great Canadian of the sixties and seventies, for me one of the greatest.

Ok, taste is individual, but if you talk about emotion in the voice, he definitely had something to say.

This reminds me of a time, many years ago, when Linda was performing in my home town, Perth, at Subiaco oval.

I wasn't at the concert, but I lived about 5 ks from the venue, over a hill and across a lake.

I was sitting outside, and when she sang Blue Biou, the sound came to me so clear it sounded as if she was just over the road.

Weird.

Dylan, "Love Sick"

Couldn't find a good copy. This one has a couple of verses edited out due to "Soy Bomb" interloper.

Robert Gerard Goulet (November 26, 1933 – October 30, 2007) was a Canadian/American entertainer who was handsome and debonaire, and had a fabulous voice... BUT. Despite singing an adequate rendition of whatever song he had to perform, he never seemed to be singing from the heart. It is like some professional dancers I've seen who follow the beat, but look like plastic robots... with the same amount of feeling. It's an intangible thing that you can't even fault for something wrong, but there's just no emotion.

bit like croc. I heard The Police from a footy stadium, sitting comfortably in my flat.

I hear the police nearly every day, while sitting at home. Main road is about a km away.

Not sure if it's always the police though....could be ambulance or fire engines.

Me too

Dolly Parton did the original in the movie "Best little whorehose in Texas" I liked Dolly's rendition almost as much because it came from the heart.

The reason it came from the heart, is because it did.

She wrote about her relationship with Porter Wagoner, the star of a show that introduced Dolly to the World, however she became too big for the show and he resented it.

Although it ended accrimoniously they did later make a peace agreement, listen to the words, when in context and emotion, it is magnificent.

Nope, I haven't figured it out.
