I'm 24 and from UAE and my friend is 28 and from Jordan. We want to come to Thailand (bangkok) for a maximum of 3 weeks to get married there. What's the procedure? Thanx for your help.

Hi........you have no problem citizens of the U.A.E are entitled to a 30 day stay upon arrival in Thailand without any type of visa. Ensure you have at least 6 months left to run on your passports and you have return tickets within the 30 days also you have suffcient funds to cover your stay (there is an outside chance you may be asked to show proof of funds upon arrival)

However your friend from Jordan does not come from one of the qualifying countries and will need to obtain a Tourist visa from the Thai Embassy/Consulate in Jordan.

TOURIST VISA EXEMPTION

- According to the Interior Ministerial Announcements dated 1 October B.E. 2545 (2002), 20 December B.E. 2545 (2002) and 18 October B.E. 2547 (2004) , passport holders from 39 countries and Hong Kong SAR do not require a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes if their stay in the Kingdom does not exceed 30 days.

- The applicant must possess instrument of means of living expenses 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family accordingly.

- Please also be advised that ordinary passport holders of 39 countries and Hong Kong who intend to engage in certain activities are eligible to apply for a visa when entering the Kingdom if their qualifications meet the conditions set forth by the Office of Immigration Bureau. Thanx a lot for your help. But he lives in my country (UAE)..does he go to the Thai Embassy in my country and apply for a tourist visa?

As far as i am aware your friend can apply at the Embassy in the U.A.E............in the same way a Jordanian citizen can apply for a Thai visa while living in the USA..........see below.

Thai Visa Requirements for Passport Holders from Jordan

Transit or Tourist Visa

When applying for the Transit Visa or Tourist Visas for Thailand at the Royal Thai Consulate General in Los Angeles, the following documents are required:

1. Your Jordan passport (valid for at least six more months and containing blank visa pages);

2. Six visa applications (completed and signed by applicant);

3. Six recent passport-type photographs;

4. A letter from the applicant's employer stating how long he or she has been employed and their salary. If the visa applicant owns their own business, please submit a letter on company letterhead explaining the type of business and how long the applicant has been in this business. A copy of the business certificate /license or seller's permit should be submitted along with the letter.

5. Six copies of the applicant's bank statement (minimum $1,000).

6. On the visa application, you must state the name and address of the hotel at which the visa applicant will be staying.

7. Six copies of your U.S. "Green Card" (both sides);

8. Six copies of the visa applicant's airline tickets showing all flights ( no open flights or one-way flights) in and out of Thailand. Itineraries will not be accepted. The applicant must follow their planned and noted itinerary.

9. Visa fee - Transit Visa = $20.00 per entry / Tourist Visa = $25.00 per entry - Visa fees can be cash, cashier's check, or money order - No personal or company checks will be accepted.

10. Return postage for mailing your passport and visa back to you (if applying by mail).

To be 100% certain i would give the Embassy a call.......... :o
