Help! I Have Security Tool Virus

Featured Replies

This morning, in my email, I downloaded a program called 'Security Tool'.

I went microsoft and downloaded a program to kill it, but it blocks my opening it...

I can't open my email program either..

Any ideas are greatly appreciated :)

I can be different things, but sounds not ok. You can start with this free rootkit scan from Kasperski and if no result you need a antimalware scan.

What security / system mainatance software you have, except from an antivirus ?

Can't help with the virus problem but you should get this moved to the computer forum - much more likely to get a greater response there.

I've just sent a PM with the contact details of an on-site (at home) technician who should be able to help.

Moved to computer forum, with live link remaining on CM.

No need to spend any money to fix this.

If you are running a 32 bit OS, download and save Hitman Pro to your Desktop(or USB drive if necessary).

For 64bit OSes, click here

Once saved, hold down the Ctrl key situated on the left of the keyboard whilst double clicking on the Hitman Pro .exe file in order to start the program. Then follow the simple instructions.

Here is a video guide for you edification:

Download Malwarebytes

http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4716-malwarebytes-anti-malware.html

Start your PC/Laptop in "safe mode with networking" (press F8 just before Windows starts and select from the list).

Install Malwarebytes.

Update and then run full scan.

Once you have cleaned this malware, install and run some anti-virus software. Microsoft's Security Essentials has one of the best detection levels and is totally free. You need to have a legit version of Windows to install it, and it can sometimes be a bit of a system hog but I use it across a network of offline PCs at work and it is great.

Thank you for your referral. I called Nik and he came to my home an hour later.

Everything is cool with my computer :)
