o.k. call me a soppy old sod if you must, but i guess its the time of the year.

love this track and the movies soundtrack that this song is lifted from. " heartburn " starring two of my favorite actors, meryl streep and jack nicholson.

Can you hear it now..

I find it odd that i can sing along with all these songs. Whereas i cannot fill in any tax or insurance bill.

Head in the sand syndrome?

He's from Swizzzerland Patsy..Makes you proud eh !!!

  • 1 month later...

woke up 0430hrs and feverish...chest infection that doesn't go away...and pounding in my head is the following...hadta get out the headphones open a beer and crank up the volume...

retro (as in before the 80s) but suitable for a harsh night on the north central VN coast...

check out the bass player in the video...I WANNA BE HIM!...

Toots - you cannot put Annie Lennox into a thread devoted to music :bah: of the eighties!

Just ain't right.

but humph...then song was released in August 1986 but like I say it's got a retro early 60s feel to it with the 'run, run, run, run' business that David Byrne also used in Psycho Killer (also an 80s tune?)

that Eurythmics video got me rememberin' a time about 15 years ago in indonesia in Pluit, North Jakarta and the housing compound where they had parties with free food and booze...a promotion to get more western folks to move in...

one party had a theme where each nationality hadta get up and sing a national song...to the accompanyment of an indo C&W band...the irish tried Molly Malone and failed miserably...the french tried an Edith Piaf number with similar result...then the MC got up and said 'no one gets outta here alive Mr tutsi...what dew yew yanks haveta contribute...?'

I said, fair 'nuff...and dragged my drunken ass onto the stage thinkin' about 'Louie, Louie' but then I thought 'the band is C&W an' everyone knows Cotton Fields Back Home...'...a word with the leader and they cranked it up and tutsi remembered his days in a band when 15 years old and went ape shit accordingly...the band was cookin' and tutsi was doin' David Byrne from stop making sense...all over the stage...by the second stanza the crowd were on their feet, burnin' down the house...

afterwards tutsi retired back to his drink and received accolades...my work mate, an instrumentation an control engineer stared at me and mumbled incoherently to himself...no one could believe...

later, the indo girl friend ('let's go to the party, babe'...'nah, you go, they all know I useta hang around the bars an' don't respect me'...and I sez: 'youse my lady an' ain't no one gonna disrespect you....) got the news thru the grapevine and spent the next day looking at me silently but with a big grin which could have said: 'you are one crazy MF' or: 'I never loved a man the way that I love you...'...she was one of my greatest loves...

so, yes...there is a connection between Annie Lennox in the 80s and a beloved indonesian woman who appeared a few years later...:)
