On the east side of the bus terminal in Surin is NCA bus company as far as I concerned the number one bus company in Thailand for safety and comfort. They have a bus that leaves at 7:30 PM at night and gets into Chiang Mai about 9:30 the following morning. VIP is 893 baht each way. The wife and I take it every other trip and last night my step son took from CM to Surin. BTW no delays going thru Chaiyaphum due to the flood bus was on time.

Thanks for the fast reply but we normally go 2nd class. We don't mind changing to save some money...cheap skates!!

The bus with the chickens hanging off the back leave from two blocks east of the bus station.

there are 6 services a day from Ubon to C.M., 4 are v.i.p.,1-air 1st class, and 1 air 2nd class. For further information, ask at Nakornchai Air booking office at Surin Bus Station.Such a long trip, I recommend the v.i.p., they are very comfortable

And in the unlikely event that you cannot find a direct bus from Surin, some (all?) of the Ubon buses call into SiSaket and probably stop at some small town not far north of Surin

Thanks for all your info. We'll go mad and take the VIP bus. We normally find 1st or 2 nd class is posh enough for us but VIP sounds alot easier for this trip.

Smart move. You will not regret it. Have a good trip.:D
