Accommodation February Mae Sai

I am looking for accommodation for a Guest House or Hotel for 1 nights in February.

Do You Any Recommendations.

Would prefer close to bus station.

Once again we've discussed this but if you're going to Mae Sai by bus there will be a number of eager gentlemen waiting at the bus station to recommend hotels.

Some people have a dislike of touts but I've personally found them quite helpful and they certainly save time.

I wouldn't fret about being close to the bus station. It is on the edge of town and it is a small town. When you arrive in Mai Sai, there will be little red bus/trucks waiting at the bus station to take you into town. When it is time to leave, it is the same story, almost. Those little red trucks just go round and round, from downtown to the bus station and back. So, just walk out of the hotel and into the street and get on the first one you see. You'll go to the bus station. If you choose a color other than red, you probably won't end up at the bus station.

There are decent hotels near the shopping area and the immigration office. I stay at one that is within walking distance of immigration but is at the beginning of the bazaar-like shopping area. The place is called the Piyaporn Place Hotel. It runs about 1,000 baht a night but the wife gets a discount for that rate. I dunno about wi-fi. We always take our wireless with us so we don't use wi-fi.

In Mae Sai Khanthongkham Hotel is very near the border, on the left just after the last U-turn. Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable, wi-fi in reception and OK in rooms nearby. Low season rates were 700/800. Phone053-734222, wwww.ktkhotel.com

Yes, that one is definitely more central to the shopping area and the crossing. Never stayed there but always wondered about it.

I always stay at the Piyaporn in Mae Sai. Very nice clean modern hotel. With a breakfast buffet, marble bathroom, big comfortable king sized beds, etc

Get a room up at least 5 floors, and on the back side away from the main street (overlooking the hotel parking lot and a view to the north and west to Burma).

Last time I stayed there Dec 09 I just showed up no reservation and paid 850 B a night. It's a bit far to walk to the bridge and downtown market, but I am always on a motorbike so that is not an issue for me.

Highly recommended as a hotel for Mae Sai.

I stayed at the Wang Thong, the big hotel on the right facing the border crossing, last week.

I found it an excellent choice and good value at 850B a night. A similar standard hotel in Bangkok would certainly be two or three times the price. This was the price quoted on the 'net and offered to us when we walked in unbooked.

We also ate in the hotel restaurant, I found the food average but my friends enjoyed it. (Where else do you eat in Mae Sai after 5pm?)

Not sure about WiFi, left the laptop home for one night.

A lot of people eat from the stalls set up on either side of the road/highway.

If you go about 4 blocks east there is a street market with good food. Some of the shophouses in that area open as food places.
