Mobile/Cell Connection Near Border

Featured Replies

This may all be a bit vague as it relates to a problem my Thai gf had which I have tried to understand. Never a good start I find.

She was in the Nong Khai area and used her phone to receive a call from me in the UK. When she got her statement there was a charge for the call from me based on her being in Laos. When she phoned her provider (Telewiz I believe) they said the call had probably been routed via a mast in Laos as it gave a better signal. I use a bypass number when I call her mobile and as far as I can see there is no rate given for calls to Laos and no indication that it was any different to my normal calls to her.

Has anyone else experienced this. Fortunately she lives in Mahasarakham so it's not problem normally but for anyone else living near the Thai border it must cause problems. How do these people deal with it.
