:wai: At long last!! for some it will be nearly 45 years, a group of British Veterans who served on Operation Crown near Leong Nok Tha are returning to visit the airfield that they built all those years ago and renew friendship with the villagers, so if you happen to stumble across any little fat wrinkly farangs sneaking around after midnight in the Amnat charoen - Mukdaharn areas , handle them gently ,explain that the curfew has been lifted and Nash gate is permanently open, and the Lao Khao does not send you blind!!In closing welcome home Bill and Pau on your return to Leong, thailands gain is Oakey,s loss B)

Some of us will have heard about this fascinating story from Nignoy's previous posts. Others may be interested in this website.

I know there are some disagreements about aspects of the history, and don't know if the version here is quite the same as Nignoy's account. Anyway, I hope the vets have a great visit and that it brings back some good memories.

Have tried to keep the history as factual as possible, as I was on permanent staff of the operation and spent over 2 years on site, where as the squadron staff were changed every 3 to 4 months, and contrary to the many different versions of the 29/11/65 death of sapper james box, I was actually the only person with him when he was shot, luckily now all the facts are available through the freedom of information act,nn

Nignoy,

Will there be some sort of reunion for you old sappers. If so when will it be. The family and I will be back in Khemarat in early dec for 5 weeks for holidays. We are friends of Bill and Pow and will probably drive the hour or so up to Leong Nok Tha and visit. Would love to catch up for a yarn after exchanging digs over the past few years.
