Htc Nexus One (Google Phone) 3G In Bangkok?

Featured Replies

Hi Friends,

I have looked through these forums (and online) for the answer to these questions for months to no avail. However its getting closer to my next trip to Bangkok (will be there for 4 months) and I thought to ask the specific question in case someone else can give some info/wisdom in relation to my need.

I have an HTC Nexus One (Google phone). As you might know there are two versions of the Nexus One. I have the T-Mobile version which runs on the 900/AWS/2100 MHz bandwidth. [reference: http://en.wikipedia....reless_Services ]

Do you know of what my 3G choices might be with this phone? or am I doomed to just getting the EDGE GPRS with 1-2Call? (in case coverage area is relevant to the answer, I will be staying around On-Nut BTS in Bangkok)

Your thoughts?

I have almost the same phone (not tied to T-Mobile, bought the open and unlocked version) and although I don't roam around Bangkok, I have no doubt that it will connect to whatever limited 3G network is available, depending on your location. I don't pay much attention to the 3G debate threads but there may be someone here who does and can define the approximate extents of whatever 3G 'patch' for you.

I base this on the fact that I use the same phone in Malaysia and Vietnam and it handily hops on their 3G networks. I note that the Maxis network in Malaysia says an HSPA enabled phone is required but I have no clue what that means with regards to the connection and assume that my Nexus One must have that connectivity since it connects OK.

Now someone may step in here and tear me a new arsehol_e because the Thai 3G network (like their girlfriend) is different.

Your only choice here would be TOT 3G or one of it's MVNO's around Bangkok only. True uses 850Mhz. Upcountry it's mostly EDGE. In neighboring countries you will be fine as they mostly use 900/2100.

I have a Nexus one and live around Onnut, your choices are unfortunately limited to TOT, I used 365.co.th as they were extremely cheap for data but the coverage is really bad, and wont work outside of bangkok.

Now I am using AIS EDGE as they offer a unlimited data package for 650 baht a month and it works everywhere.
